I have so much other fic I need to finish right now (and it doesn't help that my muse is deciding I want to write Alesha/James (Law and Order: UK not Martha and Lee but Martha and hot guy who was gay in The State Within) and Sarah/Derek (Sarah Connor Chronicles)), but I felt really guilty for not finishing this.
Series: A Work In Progress. Or: How Reese Learned To Stop Worrying and Move in With Crews.
Title: Step 4: Furniture is Bought. Or: Crews & Reese are learning how to be normal.
Rating: PG
Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Fluff
Characters & Pairings: Crews/Reese, Ted
Summary: Slightly AU now, could either be read as everything this season between Charlie and Dani gets resolved, or nothing past Re-Entry happened. It does exactly what it says on the tin. This story will chart the move from partners to living together for Crews & Reese.
Notes: I am so sorry this took so long to update, just after the news about Sarah Shahi, I was disappointed, and my muse decided to leave. Sorry. This scene was what actually made me want to write this story so it is funny it has taken the longest. There will probably only be one more part, which will hopefully be updated much sooner.
A Work In Progress. Or: How Reese Learned To Stop Worrying and Move in With Crews.
Step 4: Furniture is Bought. Or: Crews & Reese are learning how to be normal.
“You know I feel silly having a security system.” He says out of nowhere. They’re sitting on his kitchen island sharing a pint of sherbet on a Sunday afternoon. It is a ridiculously normal thing to do, and when he thought that he was oddly reassured to see her gun resting next to her thigh.
“Well you're not getting rid of it.” She isn’t wearing one of his shirts. She’s wearing a pair of his boxers and her own undershirt. He kind of likes that she doesn’t give into the cliché of his shirt.
He refrains from smiling at her matter of fact tone. "No, Reese, I'm not. It's just-" He stops and frowns.
She takes a spoonful of banana sherbet waiting for him.
In that moment he realizes, they've gotten good at this. They're good partners, excellent partners, and they're good at this too, the intimate talk at the end of the day, the eating together, the moving around and with each other, the whole damn thing. He smiles. "I don't have anything worth taking."
Reese shrugs, "So get some things.”
Ted wanders into the kitchen and as he reaches the fridge responds with: "Clutter."
She raises an eyebrow in question. "Clutter? Crews, either be Zen, or don't be, it is getting far too confusing."
"Oh you like it. I know you do."
"No I don't."
"Yes you-"
"Crews, we are not five."
"Well-"
"Crews." She cut him off at the pass.
Charlie smiled smugly behind his spoon.
Ted turned to Dani before leaving them alone in the kitchen. "I'd be careful if I were you, he might flip and decide to stuff the house."
Reese's lips twitched in amusement as Charlie called out after Ted: "I'm right here you know."
As Reese began to clear up their mid-afternoon snack so she could go back to ravishing him, Charlie said, "Tomorrow we're taking your car from the station."
Reese raised her eyebrows in question. They were supposed to be covert about their relationship, but it wasn't unheard of for partners to drive each other home, and Crews had a sparkle in his eye she really didn't feel like dampening. "Fine."
Crews grinned.

"So..."
"So."
Reese opens her arms in question and raises her eyebrows rising and her lips pursing simultaneously.
"I thought we could go furniture shopping."
She nodded in her long suffering way that said they had obviously passed the point of rational conversation and stepped out in front of him into the floor of couches, chairs, tables, beds, and shelves. He followed after her.
After five minutes of wandering she turned on him, "You want me to help don't you?"
He grinned. To be honest he was surprised she managed to last so long.
Reese rolled her eyes. "Fine." She placed her hands on her hips and looked around the store. "Okay let's start with the completely unfurnished rooms." She looked at him.
"Yeah, of course."
She headed straight for a group of couches.
As he sat back on a possible candidate and studied the way she viewed each piece of furniture he smiled as he realized that she was inspecting furniture for his house like she read each of their suspects in an interrogation.

In the car back to the house she said. "You know, I've never bought furniture before."
He looked over at her. She really could've fooled him. She had been thorough in that store, really, really unflinchingly good at furnishing his house; he liked that. She was part of his house now, irrevocably part of him.
"After moving out, every where I lived was pre-furnished at least with the basics. I've never really gotten anything more."
He was quiet. He had learned that usually in response to her revelations it was good to stay quiet, just to be there, and never, ever to express an ounce of pity, empathy could be allowed, but pity would earn you a nicely placed bullet. As they moved past the edge of the city and up into the hills, he said across the space between them, "I did. When Jen and I first got the house, we went... not to IKEA, I don't think there were IKEAs then." He frowned, and dismissed the detail in his story, "We had to buy the cheapest things in the store. Now..."
"Now..." She parrots.
He frowns. It's annoying when she teases him with techniques she picked up from him. "We got nice stuff." He finally said.
Reese tilts her head as she stares at the road ahead, before finally saying. "Yeah, we did."
Crews knows better to teaser about the we, but he thinks he’ll like having sex with Dani on their couch.
Again, sorry about the wait. The next (probably the penultimate if not the last) chapter should not take as long and will hopefully be up within the week.
