So far I only heard people being negative about it, but those were all people who grew up with the book. I really love Dr. Seuss but I don't have any nostalgia attached to it, that already makes things a lot different I guess! I did like the Horton Hears A Who movie but it felt to me like it had nothing to do with the book, not only the characters they obviously changed, but more the whole pacing/atmosphere of the movie, and Horton's personality himself.
I heard a couple of people being positive about it. I dunno, I just like bright colours and the style, and the fact that it's Doctor Seuss promises that the plot will be okay too (unless they screw something up). I liked Horton too but that was done by another studio, Blue Sky.
Like you, I don't have any childhood nostalgia attached to Dr. Suess, I know his works more through my illustration training than childhood reading (except maybe Grinch, everyone knows Grinch because of the movies).
Haha, you know, every time I see Seuss books in stores I have an urge to buy them because of all those illustrations but I can't really justify it.
