Well, well. I finally got to check out the medical ward yesterday afternoon, although not quite in the way I'd intended to. There was a little... accident, while playing Aahnruhd, you see, when myself and two of my fellow inmates were trying it out and I became the innocent victim of competitive spirit gone awry. Let me state for the record that ( Read more... )

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that you were injured, Mr. Portsman! How awful. I'm very glad you weren't seriously hurt. Those balls are quite heavy! Yes, aahnrühd can be rather unpredictable, but not hitting others is something its players should always strive for. Though accidents do happen, of course.

I can send you some herbal salve, if you'd like. It's the least I can do.

Agreed on all counts, but this wasn't exactly an accident! Again, I won't name names, but one of my opponents purposely threw her ball at the other one. It just happened to hit me, instead.

Thanks for the sentiments, though. I'm not sure an herbal salve would do much good on my ...affected area. But maybe it's worth a shot! I think I'll take you up on that.

Ah, I see! I'm even more sorry to hear that. I hadn't intended to encourage violence of any kind. I know tensions can run high during a competitive sport, but I do hope that won't happen again.

The salve I have in mind is multipurpose and also has pain relieving properties, so it might be useful to you in any case. I'll send you some right away. I do feel somewhat responsible, since I did provide you with the balls.

Hey, it's not your fault. If anything, maybe you should send Mimi some brochures on Codhopian methods of anger management.

... whoops, did I say Mimi? My bad.

Looking forward to the salve. I've gotta say, you sure do take good care of us here. I'm almost wondering if there's a catch!

On an unrelated note, Mr. Portsman, would you mind if I asked you a personal question?

A personal question, huh? Sure, go for it.

Thank you, Mr. Portsman.

There might not be any point in asking you this, but you do seem to be the most approachable of the people who were involved in the smuggling ring.

I was wondering if you were at all acquainted with Manny Coachen? It's simply that I worked with the man for so long, yet didn't really know him. I'm curious about what he was actually like.

Manny Coachen, huh.

Sorry, but I've only talked to him a time or two, and both were pretty strict to business. The extent of what I know about him is pretty basic, and things you probably already know yourself. He was Alba's second-hand man, and he was caught on security footage in an incriminating way involving the KG-8 incident, if you care to look that up. I know, because I was in charge of securing that tape some years later. But past that, unneeded information never traveled down the totem pole well, you see, even if I was in charge of the ring's legal work.

Sorry to hear you got hurt - but I'm glad you weren't down too long. Diego said it was a pretty competitive game.
Rosa told me she'd met you. She does like talking about basketball.

I guess I'll see you around the gym when you're feeling up to it.

Thanks, Ken! Diego would know better than anyone how competitive it got, there. And Rosa mentioned me, hm? I must have left quite the impression on her!

I'll be at the gym for some lifting before dinner time tomorrow. My top half is just fine after all!

How do you manage to hurt yourself playing ball? You sure are clumsy, pal.

Hey Detective, put a cork in it! J getting hurt was all my fault. People get hurt playing sports, like, all the time anyway.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but like, I heard you gave Mr. Palaeno a truck load of trouble playing the same game. Do the words "dented pipe organ" ring any bells? Sounds awfully "clumsy" to me.

Rrowr. Trying to make up for recent events by coming to my defense, are you? Isn't that cute.

I'll have to agree with Mimi on this one, Detective. You're really not one to talk!

I'm like, just clearing up a misunderstanding, okay! The sportswoman in me, like, can't stay quiet when she hears, like, judgement based on inaccuracy!

Whatever, I'm going to make sure you heal up fine either way, so like, don't you worry about that!

I am surprised the guards left you unsupervised with such big balls.

So am I! And I'm surprised they let me keep the Aahnruhd set, too.

Must be a show of pity.

Speak of which, I've been meaning to visit you. In a way, I do owe my job to you.

... Yes, I suppose you do. Not to mention your office.

I wouldn't mind having a visitor, for a change of pace. Are we talking a casual visit or an interrogation?
