Monsoon and Halwa

The entire Hawaiian island chain is stuck under this wide belt of rain and more rain. It just opens buckets for five minutes and sounds like large, ripe fruit hitting the roof and then nearly stops to a small drizzle long enough that you think it is done. You could try Amaranth or Millet I suppose, or the ground rice used for cream of rice. I am sure there are Indian variations on the recipe that may use rice. If you used the ground rice then you could follow the recipe as is, but if you used amaranth or millet, I think you would need to cook them seperately first, but maybe cook them in milk to give it the richness. (Of course you can use soy, rice or almond milk as subs.) Let me know if you try it.
