Request for Firewire external case?

I'm hoping that someone local can help me out here. I'm looking to borrow a Firewire external harddrive enclosure. It has to be PATA compatible (3.5" IDE). Anyone who has one that I can borrow for a couple of hours, please do email me at omaha (at) eskimo (dot) com ( Read more... )

First, I don't have a case. I'm very sorry if I didn't I'd be happy to give it to you.

I know I'm about to get thumped, because it always happens when I make statements in a public forum.

I believe that Firewire is an Apple developed system with is more than likely the reason that they require the start-up disk to be Firewire rather than USB. Also Firewire is actually faster than USB.

Well, I don't know about the former...I mean, yes, Apple created it, but Apple also supports USB2, so it's not like Apple wouldn't support other methods. But yes, it is much faster than USB, so would make for a much better system for installing software on external harddrives.

Thanks for the virtual offer, though. :)

Heh. Well, as it turns out, Elf bought a Firewire/USB combo PATA enclosure, so I was able to upgrade my kids' computer.
