I'm at a critical juncture. My paid LJ account is expiring, and I've been wondering whether to renew it or not. In years past, this was never a question, but in the past few years I've been questioning it more and more. At first it was just a question of whether I would get a life-long account. Go with Dreamwidth. Crossposting back to LJ is a breeze; you can even set it to do it by default. They also mumbled something about *reading* LJ from Dreamwidth, but I'm not sure how that works yet.

You definitely have enough non-DW LJ'ers that read you that keeping a freebie over here is worth it. But paying the Russkies? if you can get the read-over-there thing working? Not worth it.

Annoying as it is sometimes, LJ is old school standby for me. I don't flirt with Facebook or whatever the newest flavor of the month is. When I have something to say, I say it on LJ, and it's where I go to find out what is happening with the lives of my friends. Like you. :}

I've never really seen that much advantage in having a paid LJ over a free LJ account. I know it's worth it for some people, but not for me. That said, it's rare, if ever, I see you posting on LJ these days. I see more updates from you on Twitter than anywhere else. :)

Worst case scenario, I don't see any drawback to keeping a free account. Even if you only use it a few times a year.

Although I post from Dreamwidth, not enough of my friends have switched to DW yet to make it worthwhile switching my all my reading over there yet. I think that if you dump LJ, you'll find that you'll miss a lot ofyour friends.
