It has been a while since I have seen the first ep of Arc of Infinity, so I don't remember how they word the line about the run in with the Cybermen, but as for the Big Finish...there were quite a few of them. Heh. Along with some Short Trips and such.
I think, in some cases, the fact that Davidson wanted a Nyssa + Doctor run, people just kind of took the one chance they had to extend that out. Even though the Nyssa they portray gets wiser, even a little more cynical over time, which then contradicts, say, her return to a slightly more childlike return in Snakedance [there is a degree of her trying to impress, if not outright flirt with the Doctor, in a couple of scenes of Snakedance, which makes less sense if they have been traveling for a year or two (or maybe many more, the next time the Doctor ages himself, there has been something like a 150 year gap)]. Still, DW continuity is much like comic continuity, there are a couple of big rules, and the little ones get ignored, and the big ones too if it makes for a fair story.
