My cousin informed us that my aunt had contracted pneumonia (or a virus doctor's couldn't decide :/) and had gone into cardiac arrest over the night. She was defibrelated back to life and taken into intensive care at the UW medical center ( Read more... )

First off, the one relation (though not by blood...thankfully?) sounds like she's perhaps worked as a nurse too long if she thinks exposing young children to death is a good thing. You do that sort of thing with a pet first, not a relative if you can help it! I never met my grandfathers, but knowing they were dead, that my grandmothers would one day die, and that I, too, would die, terrified me as a child. I would cry myself to sleep on really bad nights, and that was just thinking of the possibility. I'd not have wanted to be subjected to seeing a relative on their death bed. o_O

I'll keep your aunt in my prayers. I do hope she recovers quickly, so if nothing else, it helps your grandfather to not suffer with his own health in having to deal with watching her.

Wow, sounds like your brother picked someone who's almost as much of a winner as he is. Hopefully it doesn't rub off on their kids.

I hope your aunt makes it through this okay.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. I visited her Wednesday and she seems to have turned a corner for the better. Gramps is the strongest 91 year old I know, he'll be alright.

We're all just taking it one day at a time. See you on Saturday!
