That is a bit of a downer controllermond July 2 2007, 15:28:38 UTC
But look at the bright side. This is supposed to go down 100 billion years from now, yeah? Since our sun only has about 5 billion years left in its lifetime, there won't be any of our kind left to be unaware of the rest of the universe. And assuming we survive that, there's always the collision with Andromeda to look forward to.

Of course, there's always the possibility of civilizations unknown to us arising that would never know about the rest of the universe. But eff those guys. They would be culturally different from us and not worth our sympathies.

Also, considering that evolution and technological advancement has brought us this far in 4.5 billion years, what might we be able to observe about the universe in the next 4.5 billion? The article tells us what we won't be able to detect based on the way we detect things now. This is all speculation of course - I'm sure there's some sort of upper limit where physics looks at technology and says "Sorry guys, there's not much more we can do here."

Besides, we all know how it's ... )
