Summary: Daisuke is worried and looks for Ken, only to worry more.

Daisuke paced back and forth trying to get a hold of Ken. The phone appeared to be ringing off the hook and still no one was answering. He'd even tried everyone else he could think of with no success. His last result was, of course, the Digital World.

It didn't take him long to figure out the right way to log into the Digital World from his own computer and without the help of Koushirou. He also didn't take long to find Wormmon, who had immediately launched himself at Daisuke upon his arrival. After a few quick words of exchange, Daisuke dashed to where Wormmon was leading him only to find Ken in a heap on the ground.

"K-KEN!!!!"

Ken looked up from the ground, coughing lightly. “Dai-....,” He tried to say but a large bout of coughs stopped him. He had open cuts on various places all over his body, and his clothes were ripped. The Kaizer's whip had taken a lot out of Ken.

"Ken, don't... don't talk." Daisuke ran to his friend's side and gathered his head in his lap. "Please be okay.. did... did that Kaizer do this to you?" When he said the Kaizer's name, it hit his mouth like poison and he all but spat it out.

“I'm,” Ken said, a cough interrupting in once more. “I'm okay.” The blood from Ken's wounds started to seep into Daisuke's clothes, making things look worst than they were. Ken had already stopped bleeding in many of the gashes, but the larger ones on is legs and back still bled. “What're...what're you doing here?”

"I couldn't find you." Daisuke was busy searching Ken for where the worst wounds were. "I was just calling to see what was up and you were gone... but I hadn't expected to find you HERE" His hands ran across nearly every portion of Ken's body. "I need to get you somewhere where you can heal...but I can't move you on my own." Daisuke was beginning to panic, now. He had never really been prepared for situations like this.

Ken moved to sit up, holding onto Daisuke for support. “It's ok. I can walk,” he said looking at Daisuke in the eyes.

Daisuke frowned. "You can? Are you sure?" He bit his lip and suddenly became frustrated. "Why I oughta... when I get my hands on that Kaizer... pardon my French, but his ASS will be MINE. But... but if you can walk. The entrance isn't far from here and I can at least get you cleaned up at my place." Daisuke fumbled a bit, attempting to get both himself and the wounded Ken up.

Ken help Daisuke pick themselves up, a small coughing fit over coming him once they were up. “I don't think,” Ken said slowly, wrapping his arm around Daisuke's neck. “that you should do anything about Kaizer yet.”

"And why not?!" Daisuke snapped, then immediately regretted it after Ken winced from the sudden loudness in his ear. He pulled pack softly. "I can't just sit back and not DO anything.. but your health is first." He began pulling Ken towards the window where he had come in at. "Do I want to ask how this happened?"

“Not really,” Ken said, trying a small laugh as he limped along with Daisuke. “It would do us both more good for you not to know.”

"Oh..." Daisuke had a sheepish look cover over his face. The had finally reached the portal and Daisuke held up his D-3, allowing them to fall into Daisuke's room. He tried as hard as he could to actually break Ken's fall, which only succeeded in himself getting covered with more blood--as well as his floor. "Oi..." He said, rubbing his head and wincing towards Ken. "You okay?"

Ken coughed harshly, holding his hand over his mouth as he nodded. He had landed half on top of Daisuke and half on the hard floor. Several of his wounds re-opened and a new trickle of blood started to flow.

"Oh, shit." Daisuke hurried to move Ken again. He definately would have a hard time explaining this entire situation to his mother. What /could/ he say anyway? 'Hi, my best friend got beaten by his psychopathic counterpart'? Instead, he managed to pick Ken up again.

"You don't look okay to me, we're heading for the bathroom first. Should I... should I call a doctor?" He panicked suddenly, when he realized that several of Ken's wounds had reopened. "SHOULD I CALL JYOU?"

Ken winced form the loudness and recoiled a bit. He held tightly to Daisuke's neck, trying not to fall as they made their way to the bathroom. “That's ok. It would be hard to explain. I don't want everyone to worry,” He said, unconsciously holding tighter to Daisuke.

"But I'm not very good at this..." Daisuke set Ken on the toilet seat and moved to dampen a washcloth to soak up most of the blood. "So tell me if I hurt you at all." He bit his bottom lip as he worked. The cuts weren't as deep as Daisuke thought, but wow, they sure bled a whole lot.

The cool watter stung sharply at the cuts, causing Ken to bit his tongue to keep from making noise. He felt that he shouldn't show this weakness in front of his best friend; he didn't want Daisuke to worry. It's not that it really hurt all that much, Ken was just a big baby when it came to stinging pains.

Since Ken appeared to be showing no pain at all, naive little Daisuke continued his work with a quickened pace, getting all the blood off of Ken's arms and legs. He stood up and frowned at the Ken's shirt which was now caked with red. "You might want to peel that shirt off." Daisuke said softly. "I could help you, though, if it hurts too much to move... "

Ken laughed lightly, even though it hurt a bit. “I think I can get it,” He said, pulling the shirt up over his head only to get stuck half way. “Aa. I ...might need a bit of help.” Somehow blood managed to gather at his cheeks in a small, embarrassed blush.

Daisuke wasted no time in helping to remove the shirt from Ken and setting the sopping piece of fabric in the sink to gestate until he was ready to wash it out. Ken's shirt had actually protected his chest from cuts, but his back was no better than his arms. Daisuke rinsed out his towel and wiped the extra blood from Ken's chest and resumed his gentle cleaning when he reached the back. "I hope these don't scar..." Daisuke mumbled in passing, not really knowing what he was saying. "You have such a nice figure.."

Ken blushed a bit more, his skin paling some as the blood went to his face. He leaned forward so Daisuke could reach better, resting his head on something warm in front of him as he closed his eyes and concentrated on breathing.

Daisuke, of course, only noticed that Ken's skin was paling and the blood drained from his own face. "K-Ken? You uh.. lost a lot of blood... are you going to be okay?" He had finished cleaning the excess blood off, and Ken had finished bleeding all over the place.

Ken sat up, wrapping his arms around his chest absently. He felt a little awkward being exposed like this in front of Daisuke. “I'm going to be fine, if it was bad I would be unconscious right now, not talking to you,” He said, really wishing that the wounds could magically be fixed right now.

Daisuke smiled softly. "That's good to hear, at least. I was uh... I was worried. About you." He glanced over, anything to avoid eye contact. "Do you need me to um.. bandage anything? Or.. will you be okay?"

Ken blushed again, feeling light headed as he looked down at himself. “I,” he said, but was interrupted with a cough. “Haa. I am not sure if these should be bandaged. If I want to wear a shirt anytime soon, they probably should. I don't want my shirt of be fused with the scabs. “

"We could.. put that big ol' gauze-y stuff on you. You'd look like a mummy, but it could work until you get better." Daisuke said with a small grin. He had already begun to dig through the side drawers by the sink for the roll of the bandages. "You know, you should eat something, too. You'll get some color back."

Ken nodded, forgetting that Daisuke was turned the other way as his head spun again. Ken put a hand on his head and closed his eyes. The blood loss was getting to him.

Daisuke turned back to Ken for a moment with the bandages in hand and rested one hand on the back of Ken's neck. "Do you want to lay down for a little bit? I could bring you ice cream!"

Ken leaned into Daisuke's hand with out thinking and nodded a little. “Laying down would be a good thing I think,” he said, pushing his slightly matted hair out of his face.

"I'll put some fresh sheets on my bed just in case." Daisuke nodded and helped Ken up from his seat on the toilet. "And lucky for you, I have ice cream!" He flashed his familiar grin again. "Chocolate or Strawberry! Uh... that is.. if you want it."

Ken wrapped his arm around Daisuke's neck, feeling especially tired at that moment. The air stung the open cuts, but Ken had gotten use to the pain. “Ah, only if you eat some with me,” he said, breathing in and out steadily.

"Well of course!" Daisuke beamed. "I'm not going to let you have all the ice cream for yourself. I'm not /that/ generous." Daisuke held Ken up delicately around the waist, careful to not hold onto any sore spots and guided Ken from the blood-covered bathroom back to his room. There, he helped Ken into a chair and got a fresh sheet from the closet and draped it over his bed. He then proceeded to take a careful hold of Ken again and help him lay softly onto the bed. Daisuke absentmindedly reached over and brushed a few stray hairs from Ken's face. "Is that a go for chocolate or strawberry, then?"

Ken looked up at Daisuke, a soft smile on his face. “Either is fine. What ever you like the best,” he said, trying not to move so his wounds don't start bleeding. Ken was glad the sheet wasn't white, or the red he was leaving now would stand out so much. He made a note to buy Daisuke a new sheet later.

"Chocolate it is!" Daisuke pumped a fist into the air and disappeared into the kitchen. It didn't take him long to find a large bowl and two spoons. What did take him a while, though, was him trying to open the darn ice cream container and manage to scoop the ice cream out into the bowl without getting it all over himself and the counter. He definitely had a lot to clean up tonight.

After a few moments, Daisuke arrived back in his room with the bowl in his arms and the two spoons sticking out of it. "Feeling any better?"

Ken looked to Daisuke, noting one bowl and two spoons without thinking about it. While Daisuke was gone, Ken had rolled over onto his front side, so that to wounds on his back wouldn't stick to the sheet. He only had one or two on his front side, so it was more logical to lay on that side. “I stopped coughing, but I think I got some blood on your sheet,” he said, smiling apologetically at Daisuke.

"It's not one of my favorite sheets." Daisuke defended Ken with a smile. "I put the extra sheet down so you would bleed on that and not my bed after all, right?" He sat down on the edge of the bed and set the freezing bowl down beside him. "Ice cream?" He grinned, holding up one of the spoons with a bit of ice cream on it to Ken's mouth. "I get to be your nurse! This is fun!"

Ken blushed slightly, starting to sit up as best he could. “I can do it myself,” he said, not looking Daisuke in the eyes.

"No, you can't." Daisuke's voice was firm. "This is so you can get your energy BACK. By the time you feed yourself, you'll be out of energy again. Just lay back and get over it." He shoved the spoon forward again. "Eat~"

“But-,” Ken tried to protest before the spoon was shoved in his face. He looked up at Daisuke, helplessly. He knew his friend was stubborn, and would fight tooth and nail until he could feed Ken. Ken gave a sigh before opening his mouth and putting it around the cold spoon. The cold frozen liquid felt nice against his throat as he swallowed and looked up at Daisuke. “Happy?” he said.

"Yup!" Daisuke sang the note and went for another spoonful. "That wasn't so bad, now, was it?" He held up another spoonful. "Whenever you're rea~dy!"

Ken blushed again, watching Daisuke as he was feed spoonful after spoonful.

Daisuke frowned after the fourth or fifth spoonful. Here he was feeding Ken and the ice cream was just sitting there, waiting to be eaten by Daisuke, too. He eventually gave in to the calling of the frozen food and instead of launching the spoon at Ken, he snaked it around and ate the spoonful himself, all the while grinning from ear to ear. "You can't eat it aaaall~!"

Ken smiled. “I wasn't expecting to,” he said curling up a bit. The ice cream had made him colder than he had been, but for some reason it felt nice. Ken closed his eyes and rubbed his face into Daisuke's pillow, breathing in deeply.

“Daisuke?” he said, looking up at his closest and best friend through his hair.

Daisuke paused from shoveling as much ice cream he could fit in his mouth without giving himself a brain freeze. "Ahn?"

Ken blushed again, his hair covering his face. “Ah, thank you,” he said quietly. Ken felt a little foolish. He had went to the Digital world on impulse after receiving the e-mail, and now here he was with Daisuke taking care of him. Daisuke could be off doing better and more entertaining things, not nursing Ken.

"It's not a problem." Daisuke said softly, after ridding himself of his mouthful of icecream. He leaned over again, brushing the hair from Ken's face again. "Don't hide your face." He grinned. "I want to see you when I'm talking to you..." He set the ice cream aside for a second and shifted on the bed so he was facing Ken more. "Are you feeling any better? I read.. somewhere, that when you lose a lot of blood, you get really cold... so maybe it was dumb to eat ice cream" He suddenly looked really sheepish and twiddled with his thumbs for a moment.

“It's ok,” Ken said, smiling at Daisuke. “I'll be fine. I didn't lose too much blood.”

Daisuke eyed the floor of his room and remembered his new bathroom decorations. "That's a lie. Eat some ice cream." He shoved a spoonful at him anyway. Some of Ken's color was returning, though. That was a good sign and Daisuke sighed with relief. Ken was going to be alright, and that was all that had really mattered.

Daisuke hadn't really realized how good of friends he an Ken were until recently, it seemed. And for that brief moment when he didn't know where Ken was, he had been so incredibly scared. He shivered, remembering, and suddenly found himself leaning over Ken in a makeshift bed hug.

Ken blinked, surprised at Daisuke's suddenness and actions. Ken couldn't move, so he couldn't return the hug. Not that he would have been able to anyway, he was stunned to the spot. “Da-Daisuke?” he said, confused but at the same time happy. Daisuke's warmth felt nice against him like this.

Ken was surprisingly cold to the touch, and while this should have been clear to Daisuke, it was still a shocker for him. He pulled back, running his hands over Ken's skin. "You're freezing..." He commented unnecessarily.

“It's no big deal,” Ken said, a shiver running down his spin from the loss of heat and the touch.

"Stop being so brave for me!" Daisuke's bottom lip jutted out involuntarily. "I know I'm not very good at nursing anyone back to health, but I want to try, and you must be in so much pain right now and I can't do anything to help." He clenched his fists and took a few moments to calm down, before laying down beside Ken, wrapping his arms around him, careful of the cuts. "So I'm going to keep you warm. And you can't stop me because I've decided already. It's the only thing I can do for you."

Ken blushed, looking at Daisuke. “I-I know I can't stop you,” Ken said. There was no stopping Daisuke when he was determined, especially when there was no large want to stop him. Ken sighed with a smile, already warming up.

A fleeting thought passed through Daisuke's brain and he realized the ice cream was probably becoming soup in the bowl, but at the moment he really couldn't care less. It was strange, but.. it felt really nice holding onto Ken. Daisuke really couldn't place a finger on why, but it seemed right. He only smiled back at Ken, attempting to will his body heat to transfer over to Ken's somehow.

Another fleeting thought flew by. If the Kaizer hadn't actually done this to Ken, Daisuke didn't know a chance that he would have been able to hold Ken like this. It was selfish to think so, but he almost thanked the Kaizer, but stopped himself. That was too extravagant. Instead, he let out a light tease. "You'd better get well fast."

Ken laughed lightly, moving slightly to get more comfortable. “What are you going to do about it?” he said, feeling better already even though his wounds still stung.

"Uh..." Daisuke droned, stumped. "I'm... well I'll think of something. We can't play soccer and take walks and goof around if you're in pain." Daisuke nodded sagely. "And as much as I enjoy taking care of you, I hate seeing you hurt." His voice dropped a little bit and he trailed off. "I never want to see you hurt again."

And then and there, he decided, was where he made a solemn swear in his mind to protect Ken with everything he had. It was a fair trade, right? Ken accepted him for who he was, and Daisuke would see to it that he would always be safe, no matter what the cost. Yeah. That must be why he liked being so close to Ken... but now that he realized it, why didn't the feeling fade?

Ken laughed softly before he quieted in a blush. Ken was warming up in Daisuke's arms, having moved closer with out knowing. Daisuke was saying stuff strangely, and it worried Ken. With no little effort, Ken lifted his arm up to place it on Ken's cheek. He smiled and said softly, “Don't worry, Daisuke. I'll stay safe if you stay safe, okay?”

Ken's hand was cold, but that was to be expected as hands were normally one of the last parts of a human body to warm up. Daisuke took a hold of the hand on his cheek and held it, attempting once more to transfer body heat. He gave a smile and a nod. "It's a deal, then."
