Day 97, Noonish

Ken was trying - trying so hard - to feel better. Physically, he was healing well. Most of the pain was gone, and when he found a mirror to look, the bruising was down to an angry red spattered across his pale back. If he didn’t move too fast or push himself too hard, he didn’t notice it. But he was still barred from going back to work on the wall

Jennifer had just been exploring again today, since she never seemed to having any luck finding her son to bother. She'd wanted to wander through the gardens ever since her little tour, too, and she'd been admiring how well-tended and interesting the different types of flowers were when she heard a little sigh. Peeking around a bush, she saw Ken seated on one of the benches. He probably didn't want to be disturbed, since it looked like he was resting--but the thought didn't even occur to Jennifer as she practically skipped up to him.

"Ken!" she waved. "Are you feeling any better?"

Ken looked up at the sound of his name, and a small smile appeared upon seeing Jennifer. He made sure there was enough room on the bench for her, should she want to sit.

"Yes. A lot better. Thank you."

"That's wonderful!" She smiled and plopped down on the bench beside him without thinking to ask. "There's no need to thank me, though! I would have liked to check on you before, but I forgot where your room was." She laughed a little sheepishly at herself. "Although I have gotten much better acquainted with the castle lately!"

"It's okay," he said, with a small shrug. "I mostly just slept." Though something in him liked the idea of seeing Jennifer more often. It seemed selfish. He was sure she would much rather spend time with her son. He envied Yuuri that much. If there were any guarantee that he could go home to him Earth, to his family, and not back to to the demo world, he might consider it. But he couldn't take that risk.
