So let's recap since I didn't yesterday: yesterday morning, Es got sick while getting ready to leave for work. She felt so unwell that she called her boss and got a two-hour grace period, so she went back to sleep. Two hours later, she woke up again and still wasn't feeling that great, but decided to tough it out. She made it to work, but lasted only a few minutes before she got sick again and her boss sent her home and advised that she see a doctor.
She went to the hospital and they took blood and x-rays and did an EKG but it all came up negative. She had a sonogram done some time very early this morning and -- bingo -- that revealed the culprit. She had surgery this morning to remove her gallbladder, which is what had been causing her that pain in her side all this time. She had four small incisions done in her belly -- I didn't see them but the doctors and nurses all said they looked good -- and is currently sleeping and high on morphine.
I visited from about four in the afternoon to just a little while ago, and Carmen joined us for a bit as well (she's up in the Bronx taking care of her parents, who had their own surgeries! (Don't worry, her brother was supposed to be there with them while she was with us)). Es gradually became more alert, and got some food, even if it was only broth, Jell-O, and juice (also ginger ale and plenty of water). That, combined with her IV drip, left her feeling pretty bloated and swollen, so she wasn't too happy about that. Nor was she happy about wearing only a hospital gown, and made me get her clothes from the charge nurse in the ER (I volunteered to get her toiletries, which helped her mood even more).
One of the doctors said she looked very good, and Es said she felt very good, so she'll be coming home tomorrow morning. I'm going to head over when she's ready and bring her back here; I'm also going to call out of work for Monday so I can help her around the house. I'm not too keen on leaving her alone like this after she's just had surgery, and her constitution's never been that strong anyway. The hounds will probably lay into me at work for the en--
Shit, I've just remembered I have a training thing on Monday. Maybe I can go in late instead and work extra hard on Tuesday? Whatever, it's not like this was planned? LOL
So yeah. Wish me luck for tomorrow, and wish Es luck for the next couple of weeks as she recovers. <3
