-- Now that the OVA and season 3 are out, will that be part of the RP canon? Can we apply for Shinou, Saralegui, etc.?
This RP is based on seasons 1 and 2 anime canon alone, so that we don't play in ways that end up conflicting with canon that was introduced later. However, characters from the OVA and season 3 are open for the application process with the understanding that if we accepted such a character, the player could draw from the OVA, novels, or third season for his/her personality and such, but any events where he/she has interacted with the rest of the cast wouldn't have taken place. (At least not for the IC applicant.)
Then the other IC characters in the RP would be reacting as though they've never met him/her before, because they haven't by the time 78 ends. (Although if someone had some reason to have met him/her in a mutually agreed upon past fanon kind of way, that would be fine. ex. Cheri meeting Saralegui once for political reasons when she was still the Maou.)
-- Can I reserve a character? No. We don't do reserves. If you want to play a character, but are worried about someone else applying before you have a chance, contact a mod.
-- I'm not sure I understand what an OOC character should be. Explain? The easiest way to approach creating an OOC character is to make them the opposite of an IC character. So, if Wolfram is pushy and obsessed, OOC Wolfram might be calm and detached. If Cheri is an affectionate flirt then OOC Cheri might be mean and standoffish. Etc.
Now, opposite isn’t necessarily the goal, but different is. You shouldn’t confuse the IC and OOC by anything but appearance (and even that is up to you.) But that doesn’t mean they can’t have some things in common.
Now, we do have a couple of sticking points:
1) You can't do things that don't physically make sense. For instance, OOC Anissina can't be her world's Yuuri's biological mother. However, she could certainly be his adoptive mother. Or she could think she was the biological mother because there was some sort of switched-at-birth thing going on. However, that should be worked out in the application. Another example would be Conrad being significantly older than he is now while everyone else in his world was the same age as in canon. Now, you could age him differently if you said that in his world half breeds aged at a different rate or there was some sort of experiment that went badly, etc. Be creative, but play nicely with physics.
2) Your OOC character shouldn't seem like he/she just stepped out of another fandom. (Ex. OOC Gisela shouldn't be from a world where she was the chosen one of her generation who has incredible strength and agility to fight vampires and demons and sass to match.) Drawing on small elements of many fandoms or very generalized fantasy elements is fine, but just be cautious you haven't recreated someone else's wheel.
3) Don't create a character who won't be able to function in the RP. (Ex. You've created a character so adverse to staying in the castle that they flee at the first chance they get and you can't think of anything that would make them go back. It will be kind of hard to play as a recluse out in the hills if none of the other characters care that there is a recluse out in the hills.)
4) Another thing we look for is that the OOCs in our game are well-balanced and this shifts around depending on the current cast. We don't want too many slutty ones or evil ones or adorable ones, etc. We'll do our best to put notes on the applications if things are feeling lopsided. In such a small game, it just doesn't pay to have too much of the same thing though.
5) We will NOT be approving characters who are just imitations of another RP’s OOC characters (or those we've had in the past). We want fresh, original ideas and OOCs are great creative outlets!
If this still isn’t making any sense, you may want to check out some of the character charts done for OOC characters at
omg_maou.
OOC Julia,
OOC Anissina, and
OOC Alford. These are good references, but please do not copy anything you see.
-- What happens to characters when a player quits?
The character(s) are reopened to the public for applications. This means OOC Yuuri might be open again, but not the same OOC Yuuri we just had. The new application would need to be original. And the new character would come into the game with no memories of our RP universe. Obviously, a new IC character would have all the memories of the anime canon.
OOC Characters:
When an OOC character is dropped for whatever reason it can be assumed they went back to their world, but the only thing the other characters know is that he/she is gone. They may mistake a new arrival for the previous OOC or even for the IC version of that character if they haven't heard the other person is missing. They shouldn't erase their memories or anything like that. They can even be disturbed by this new trend in disappearing people. It will be handled by individual players however they feel their characters would react.
IC Characters:
When an IC character is dropped it can be assumed that the person everyone thought was the IC character was actually an OOC who was fooling everyone or who was so close to the original that no one could tell the difference - not even that character! Maybe the only difference in his or her world was that bananas are purple instead of yellow or some other trivial thing.
It is then up to the new player to decide how best to explain the IC character's absence. Maybe it was someone like Yuuri and he was simply on Earth and just thought it was odd that his brother and Murata were gone. Maybe they were transported to another reality and can have stories about that. Maybe they were kidnapped and wondering why no one bothered to come to their rescue. As long as the story fits into our omg!kkm world and makes sense with the character, it will work.
It is fine for other characters to be suspicious of the returning IC or to throw him or her a welcome back party or whatever else seems appropriate for such a situation. It may even pass unnoticed except for a few conversations the person doesn't remember having.
-- I have never RPed before. Can I still apply? Of course! Everyone has to start somewhere. We'll be gentle!
-- So, are we supposed to be writing this like a fanfic with paragraphs and past tense or from our character's perspective with internal thoughts or should we use asterisks to denote actions? Yes, any and all. We are not going to police your writing style. We only ask that you use spell check and watch your grammar so it is understandable. You should do what works best for you, your character, and the situation. If it becomes an issue we will discuss it as a group.
-- Can I ensure that my OTP will happen? No. You can't control the other players or the situations that might lead to such things. But if it is IC for your character to have the hots for another, you can sure try! Just keep in mind that not everyone gets what they want.
-- I really like the one on one interaction with RPing on IM. Do I have to respond to a post by commenting? Nope! You can comment to that post OOC and ask if they would mind RPing with you in IM or in chat. Or you can just contact them directly, but the poster might want to put a note on the post saying it is being RPed off screen so they don't get confusing, multiple tags. Then when you are done, just edit the IM log from your name to your character's name and put it up on a comment under that post. It won't be canon unless it appears on the community itself.
-- This community says all new, all different and lists it as the second. Huh? This is the second OMG!KKM, but it is autonomous from the first except that it shares
omg_fandom. You don't need to know anything about
omg_maou to play here. The only similarities are that they both run from the same basic premise of IC and OOC characters, as do many other RPs which are partially listed on
omg_omg.
-- What if I don't have AIM and I can't/won't get it? That is the beauty of having the RP on LJ too. You can play directly on the comm or in private. If you want to post an RP log from e-mail, AIM, MSN, G-chat, or whatever the kids are using these days, go ahead. Just replace your own names with the character's names to avoid confusion. Just remember that any interaction not posted to the comm will not be considered part of the game's canon.
-- Name spellings: Names should be official when they can, but it's understood that they're interpreted differently depending on their source. We won't hold it against you, but be aware that some players may not spell your character's name the same way. (Josak vs Yozak for example).
