Music Monday - #1

Feb 01, 2010 12:12

So every Sunday night, I make up a playlist of tunes that I'm in a particular mood for, and that's generally what I listen to for the week. I'm not quite sure how these Music Mondays are going to work... would you prefer to know the songs I liked especially during the week, or would you prefer like, a spotlight on a particular band or artist?

Harry Potter Alliance
"The HP Alliance Rap"
Last Sunday, the HP Alliance spent five hours livestreaming, raising money for Haiti. They made more than $34thousand in that time, and are still collecting. The HP Fandom pretty much wrock.

Pearl and the Puppets
"Blossom"
"Anymore"
"Lower Ground"
"Make Me Smile"
"Mango Tree"
"Up and Away"
"Because I Do"
Top Tracks - "Up and Away" and "Because I Do". Recommended by my friends Ben and Chris ^_^

Chris Cavill & the Long Weekend
"Admire Your Courage"
"My Destination"
"Monday Train"
Found on Triple J Unearthed. None of the tracks really stood out to me.

Cloud Control
"Buffalo Country"
"Vintage Books"
"Into the Line"
Found on Triple J Unearthed. I've heard a lot about Cloud Control, but again, they didn't really stick out to me.

Cuthbert and the Night Walkers
"Red Frogs"
I was expecting a high-energy song when I found this on Triple J Unearthed. That's just what you get, I suppose, when you name your song after a lolly... but it was good anyway :D I liked it.

The Hazelman Brothers
"Meredith"
"8 Out of 10"
"Standing Under My Name"
Another Triple J Unearthed lot :D I like "Meredith", despite the fact that it's about a festival I've not been to.

Velociraptor
"Hey Suzanne"
"Oh Yeah"
"Scientists"
Quite possibly my pick of the week. Triple J Unearthed, of course. Check these fellas out, for sure.

Ben Abraham
"Never Been in Love"
"Me and Rose"
"I Remember"
I'm a little bit in love with Ben Abraham. Check him out, too, on Triple J Unearthed

Blondie
"Denis"
"The Tide is High"
"Heart of Glass"
I love "Denis" ^_^

Boy & Bear
"Mexican Mavis"
Triple J Unearthed. Doesn't stand out to me.

ChartJackers
"I've Got Nothing"
The Internet WROTE THIS SONG! BBC2 approached four guys off YouTube (Charlie McDonnel, Alex Day, Johnny Durham and Jimmy Hill), and got them to organise the YouTube community into writing a song that they would try to get on the charts, just by the awesomeness of the Internet. AND, proceeds go to Children in Need :)

The Crooked Fiddle Band
"The Rom Rebellion"
"The Milkman"
"The Butcher of Bessarabia"
Triple J Unearthed. Freaking awesome string playing, right here. And I don't often say that about string playing. High energy, great fun.

Deep Sea Arcade
"Lonely in Your Arms"
"Don't Be Sorry"
"Crouch End"
"Lonely in Your Arms" was the iTunes free song a few weeks back, and then I got the others from Triple J Unearthed. Good stuff, have a look :)

Fortunes Fall
"Only Human"
"I Want Never Gets"

Woo! Hank Green! DFTBA! Top tracks: "It's Too Hot", "Nerdfighterlike", "Looking for Alaska"

Hawks of Alba
"Look What You've Become"
Triple J Unearthed. Doesn't stand out to me

I Heart Hiroshima

"London in Love"
"Shakeytown" was the free song of the week on iTunes a few weeks ago. I like it :)

"Hurt Me"
Triple J Unearthed. Doesn't stand out to me

"Drunk on Love"
"Lover's Ride"
"Sweet Somebody"
LOVE Jordie Lane ^_^

July Days
"Home"
"That's Alright"
"Maybe Attending"
A friend became a "fan" of these guys the same day I had sat my History exam all about the Russian Revolution (and therefore the July Days). I followed some links to Triple J Unearthed, and liked what I heard :)

Little Red
"Coca Cola"
"Witch Doctor"
"It's Alright"
These guys were in Frankie when I first started reading it. Good stuff.

Maggie Rigby
"Morning Song"
Maggie Rigby is my dear friend ^_^ She's going to teach me the ukulele in exchange for sewing lessons. I was just searching Triple J Unearthed one day, and looked in the region in which I live. Maggie was second on the list :D

Megan Washington & Sean Foran
"Everybody's Talkin"
"Fin"
"Water and Time"
"Some Other Time"
"Nightlight"
"No Surprises"
I found Megan Washington through Frankie, too ^_^ This stuff is a little jazzier than her others, so it's good for settling in.

"Sunshine"
"Just Say It"
"M11"
"Pick it Up"
"I Lyk U"
"Far Away From Me"
"I is for Igloo"
"I Won't Forget You"
omgmhazzrocks! Mhairi (or Mhazz, but I really like the name Mhairi ^_^) is from teh youtubez, and I like her and her Scottish accent :D

Mickey 3D
"Matador"
French. Fun. Good stuff.

Minotaur Shock
"The Lonliest Road"
Emmy Cicierega suggested this on her blog, and I really like it :)

Monique Kerr
ALBUM: "Golden Blue"
Monique is a girl I went to school with, and has an amazing voice. As part of the school choir, I sang on stage at the launch of this album :D

Nat "King" Cole
"Unforgetable"
Love. This. Song.

Oh Mercy
"Seemed Like a Good Idea"
I'd heard a lot about Oh Mercy, too, and was pleasantly surprised with what I found :D

Olivia Ruiz
"La Femme Chocolat"
French. About a woman who eats so much chocolate that she turns into a chocolate planet. Go check out the video clip, it's great :D

A Rocket to the Moon
"I Think About You Everyday"
"Baby We're Invincible"
A bit of whiney American teenagey pop is good, every now and then :D

The XX
"Islands"
iTunes free song of the week a few weeks back. Didn't stand out to me.

And later in the week, I went out to COFFEE?! with my pal Troy, and they were playing some oldschool jazz. So then I had to add it into the playlist, 'cause it was all just stuck in my head :P

Billie Holiday
"God Bless the Child"

Dinah Washington
"I'll Never Be Free"
"I Won't Cry Anymore"
"Wheel of Fortune"

I like me some oldschool jazz :D
Hmmm... I get the feeling that this wasn't a particularly interesting post. I'll try to think of a way to make it more interesting in future. Suggestions?

Also, suggestions for music I'd like?

Also, I didn't mean to sound like such a Triple J Unearthed whore, but I mean, c;mon. Free indie music! What's not to love?!
