Chapter 22 ; Plant a Seed, Watch it Grow

Sherrina woke up to the steady beeping of a heart rate monitor and the muffled whispers of two people in deep conversation. Her eyes fluttered quietly and she gave a silent groan. She tried to lift her arm to rub her eye but found that she couldn't move. So she closed her eyes and just rested.
Then she realized that the voices were familiar to her, and seemed to be in a fierce argument. Jonghyun...and Key? She thought surprised.
Sherrina wanted to call out to Jonghyun, then it finally registered what they were talking about, and everything that happened to make her faint came rushing back to her. She was curious, so she kept quiet, hoping they wouldn't notice she was finally awake.

Jonghyun lifted her in his arms, cradling her to his chest. He glared at Key suspiciously, before melting, seeing his best friend slumped on the floor like that. He teared up. This was way too much to handle at once.
What was going on?! Jonghyun had no clue. He slumped on the floor next to Key, Sherrina still in his arms. He didn't know what to do.
Key turned his head up, choking back his sobs.
Jonghyun looked at his tear soaked face, blurred in his watery vision.
Key hiccuped, and looked back down, then turned his eyes to Sherrina. A sniff, then he said, "I think you should probably take her to the doctor. It looked like she fell pretty hard."
Jonghyun stiffened. Then so did Key. More tears fell, this time silent. He choked out the words, "I...I didn't mean to do that. Honestly." Tears dripped down his face, a small puddle was starting to accumulate on the floor. Key couldn't look at Jonghyun. He felt too guilty.
But there was a seed. A small part of him that felt good about making her fall to the floor.

Jonghyun sighed, looking at Sherrina. He lifted his fingertips to her face to brush her hair out of the way. He rose to his feet with her in his arms.
Key looked up at him with red, puffy, eyes, then got up, too. The hospital was only a few blocks away. Jonghyun checked Sherrina all over to make sure nothing was broken, and there were only a few scratches on her arm from falling. It seems she also passed out from shock, or maybe exhaustion.
He made a face, walking quickly towards the hospital. Jonghyun wanted to make sure she was completely and totally fine.
Key tagged along behind him, keeping his head down and hands in his pocket.
Jonghyun didn't know why, but it bothered him. Key following him carrying Sherrina bothered him. It seemed like in the few minutes between Key leaving the dorm and Key talking to him just now, he changed. As if something inside of him was different.
Key followed Jonghyun silently, watching the floor in front of him and his hyung's feet move. With every step they took, Key's emotions seemed to build and build. He was a mess. Nothing he thought really expressed what he felt. He wanted to tell Jonghyun exactly what he was to him, but...couldn't find the words. He thought he should tell him, like Sherrina said. There was no possible way that it could make him hate him more than after what he did to her.
Key didn't really want to think about that. Didn't want to think about what he did to Sherrina or the ensuing feelings he had about it. Did he truly feel bad?
He couldn't say he did.
Bitch deserved it.

Key sat in the large puffy chairs available in the waiting room while he stared blankly at the opposite wall. It was stark white with no decoration whatsoever. He looked right past Jonghyun pacing the room, deep in thought.
Key stared blankly at the nurse's desk on his left. Staring at the nurse with dark eyes. She happened to look up and her eyes widened in alarm. Quickly averting her gaze, Key's eye twitched. His head fell back against the his chair. His eyes dry and memories on rewind.

They were both kneeling on the floor, looking at the rack of necklaces. Both were laughing conspiratorially. The older one carefully took two off of the bottom row. It was a key and a small dinosaur. He held them up between them with a big grin on his face. Look! A key for me and a dinosaur for you!
The younger boy looked at him in confusion. Why a dinosaur and key?
I can have the key, and you can have the dinosaur! Duh. Then we'll keep them and make sure that we don't forget each other. Okay? The smaller boy looked up at his hyung with trust. He nodded his head with a small smile. Okay!
They both smiled at each other, trusting in each other to keep the other out of trouble.

Key woke up groggily. The nurse was talking to Jonghyun and he looked eager and excited. Sherrina must be fine, then...
