The way my old security-guard friend at the mall described it, your brain sleeps in 4 hour cycles. It's best to get two at a time, but just one cycle is better than one-and-a-half. Further details left to the sleep-researchers.

My sleep HAS to be in divisible-by-4-hour chunks. Every time I nap longer than an hour or sleep for 5-6/9-10 hours, I feel like garbage. I got used to it, though.

If I had class at 8 (so I wake up at 7), and it was 2am, I would stay up until about 3:30, just because the 4 hours of sleep would feel infinitely better than 6.

Yay sleep cycles.

I think it might depend on the person, because I used to get 4 hours of sleep all the time in high school and I could never stay awake through classes. Actually, if I get anything less than 7 then I'm kinda uuuuhhhhhhh for the day. Anything MORE than 8 hours is fantastic (the more the merrier) but I usually feel too RELAXED to want to do anything like iidx or physical labor. :>
