First Day

Mmm.. I'd say that far more typical is the problem set every week or so but no quizzes class. Or the read a whole lot, write a few papers and take a final or have a final paper class for the more fuzzily inclined.
I don't think I've had a single quiz since high school.

MATH 1551 and 1553 both were quiz heavy.

Mmm ... I dunno how Stanford is, but Math at LSU seems to be quiz-heavy with no required homework assignments. Organic doesn't have any quizzes but is loaded with homework.

If you're not already assigned to read it (which I would be surprised) I highly recommened the book Cry, the Beloved Country which is set in apartheid South Africa. If you need a copy of it, you're welcome to borrow mine (if you promise to keep it in good condition).

Nope, we're not assigned to read it. We've been given The Mirror at Midnight (investigative journalism at the peak of Apartheid), two autobiographies of Nelson Mandela and Frederick de Clerk, and a dry, textbook style discussion book that Nancy Clark cowrote with her husband. But thanks for the offer, I appreciate it.
