Sounds good. I'm all for going home.

But then what? Seriously. What happens if we all leave here tomorrow? And no cop outs like "it was a mistake, we shouldn't be here, Bush lied, yadda, yadda." (oh yeah, I almost forgot -Haliburton!!)

Let's say we leave tomorrow, or even in March '08. What happens then? Has anyone thought this through?

Yes, you're right. I was being glib in my original comment. On the other hand, I think that people who disagree with you might be more persuaded by a presentation of the good points of the current plan, rather than a criticism of the (lack of) alternatives. This is important because one could say that the document you linked to doesn't really constitute a plan -- if they believed that it was based more on propaganda and wishful thinking than on a realistic assessment of the situation. A lot of people believe that, and in that system of beliefs, the costs of leaving Iraq don't really matter. The costs will accrue eventually anyway and the benefits of staying are nil. More generally: it's hard to change someone's mind when they have finite faith in one alternative (leaving), and zero faith in another (staying). First convince them that the second alternative has some value, and then you can start sapping their faith in the first ( ... )
