As a way of making up to Henry after her blowup, Ashley invited her geeky friend with her to dancing. To be truthful, it was more like multiple couples grinding on each other in the middle of a sweaty, barely lit club. Henry did not understand why she would pick this particular place to make up but he took the chance. His mind quickly wandered to what it would be like to “dance” with Ashley like the others in the club. He quickly reminded himself, however, that this was Ashley that he was on the verge of having a full-blown fantasy about and she is his best friend.
“What are you thinking about Foss?” Ashley asked as soon as they found a table that would quickly be vacant.
He shook his head. “Nothing much.” He paused for a few moments. “Aren’t you going out there?” He nodded his head toward the dance floor.
She waved the question off. “I usually wait for some unsuspecting fool.” She gave him a predatory smile that was not intended for him. He was starting to suspect that her persona in the real world as like that of the abnormal world; she would always be a predator no matter the surroundings.
A woman, in her early twenties, came up to the table and asked Henry to dance. The tech was as surprised as Ashley and she said that she would wait for the next song. The next song turned into almost an hour later and Ashley could not help it. She had way too much time to think.
She thought back to the night when the Sanctuary’s heater stopped working for some reason and she had ventured to his room for warmth. He had not pulled any moves on her and she was appreciative. She also knew that was the first night she had slept in his room before. When they were younger, she was not allowed in his room for fear of damaging anything that was of value. Now, when she went in there, it had been warmer than her room, a detail she had forgotten until then. It was not warmer because of the heater miraculously working in his room, it was because Henry was there.
She had spent the next hour (yes, now, it was two hours since Henry had left her at the table) going through everything in her life that had pertained to her and Henry and how she had acted around him. The memories and thoughts were starting to bombard her with the same answer: she had feelings for Henry.
Frustrated, she sought him out in the club and found the same woman with him. They looked as if they were enjoying themselves and this angered her. Dammit, the green eyed monster as come to rear its ugly head, she thought. Moving quickly, she came up to the pair and Henry smiled at her when he noticed it was her. She wanted to slap him right there for causing some rather interesting things that were going on in her stomach. Butterflies? This guy was causing butterflies for her?
“Hey, can I have a turn?” She yelled over the music. The woman gave her a disgusted look but glanced at Henry for his choice.
“Yeah. Come on.” He reached for Ashley’s hand and she willingly gave it to him. The woman was off in an instant and Ashley did not really care. She had two hours with her best friend, now it was her turn.
For the lack of space, they were close, closer than any time that her mom would have them practicing dancing. Now, she was thankful for those painstaking lessons because if it was her first time this close to Henry, then he would be able to tell. She did not even count them sleeping together. It was done for necessity.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and instinctively, his hands laced around her waist. She was not grinding like everyone else in the club and after a few songs, she did not even start to. Of course, Henry knew something was wrong and when asked, she said she could not tell him. He did not inquire any further but she knew it was going to bug him.
Finally, during a particular amped song, she took her chances. They were facing each other, still in the tight embrace, when she kissed him. At first, it was something chaste and nothing to worry about. However, when they tore apart after a few seconds, Henry’s eyes were on the verge of turning yellow but he came forward, captured her lips in his and kissed her even harder.
This is going to be interesting, Ashley thought.
