I just opened a letter addressed to my subtenant from 2 years ago, who has now moved back to New Zealand. It's from a debt collection agency

Crickey! I bet he'll be gutted he missed out on that opportunity!

It seems all you need to do to get a debt wiped out is to phone up in a voice of the wrong gender (my subtenant was female) and say they've left the country, and they instantly believe you and delete it from their records. Which is, of course, what I wanted them to do :)
