Dear Readers,
My works will be temporarily locked in light of Eat Your Kimchi's recent
tweet. I will be returning soon once this issue has passed; if you are a new reader or came here from a recommendation and would still like to read, please PM me.
People may be wondering why this is such an issue and may not understand how authors may find this offensive. Please allow me to explain.
- Fanfic authors most often post their works within a community/blog/setting where people understand the basis of their works. That is, it is usually a setting where certain character relationships/plots/kinks are accepted and understood. And that is the point- to establish a common ground where people can come together to share stories and express their adoration for certain people. That being said, not everyone understands; those new to fanfiction may take the material in a negative light and then express their thoughts in a harmful way. What is 'harmful'? Leaving negative comments, spreading hate regarding an author (or even worse that entire fandom), categorizing an entire fandom (or fanfic writers in general) to be something they're not because one fic may have deterred you- and keep in mind all of this can be done via anon. I'm not saying all newbies to fanfiction will react this way, but the possibility will be greatly increased, especially with how many people watch EYK.
- EatYourKimchi does not have a good track record. Granted, I've only watched a handful of their MV reviews but quite frankly, that was enough for me. I find their criticism to go beyond that, into bashing and shoving their opinions down one's throat. But it's their YouTube channel, they're allowed to do what they want. LIKEWISE, an author's works are her/his property and as such, they are allowed to choose what to do with it. It's their choice to upload a fanfic link to EYK, not someone else's.
- Based on past EYK MV reviews, and what many people have to say about them, a 'review' will be nothing short of narrow-minded comments that will probably hurt the author more than inspire her/him to write more. And if an author is deterred from writing or from enjoying a fandom because of some bigots, I swear I will sacrifice goat balls for Satan to hunt those bastards down.
- Many authors don't want their fanfics to be the scrutiny of unfamiliar readers. See #1 for why. Furthermore, their stories were meant to be shared- not advertised. And with links available for all to see on Twitter, simply telling EYK "no" will not prevent their fics from getting spread around.
- The possibility of plagiarism is greatly increased. As said with #4, Twitter allows all to see the fanfic link. This means that the chance that someone else "being inspired" by the work and ripping off it is that much greater.
- Some idols may watch EYK. Please understand what this means. These stories are meant to be shared within an understanding fandom, not the idols themselves. Please understand how this could affect the idols. *hint* probably not in a positive way
These are just a few of the many reasons why people are "freaking out". TL;DR: Don't link it. Don't humor EYK with an innocent author's work. Don't turn what many people consider a passion into an object of scrutiny.
Oh, and please don't comment about how my opinion of EYK is wrong. Because that's exactly what it is: my opinion.
To my readers: much love, see you later!
