The ringing in my ears has faded a little. I still feel unbalanced.

There are so many adults here. Why are Seimei and I the only ones with ears?

Does anyone know what we're supposed to be doing here?

LOL YOU SON OF A BITCH, HOJO. YOU'RE ON SEIMEI'S LIST NOW. cryptonyms October 4 2008, 23:37:29 UTC
Our ears don't grow back. In our world, they're a symbol of our virginity, and once we lose them, we can't very well grow them again, can we? I suppose that'd defeat the entire purpose of them.

Does that answer your question, Professor?

... Quite.

We've met before, haven't we. You also know about this matter, then?

Then you could tell me something of the biological aspect. I want to know the connection between these seemingly unrelated aspects of the physical anatomy. Presumably a hormonal change is involved.

yeah that's right. cryptonyms October 4 2008, 23:48:30 UTC
Once before, yes.

-- It's much like losing one's baby teeth. Once one reaches a certain age, or in this case, performs a particular act, their body reacts to it, and as a result, their ears are lost. I hardly doubt it has anything to do with anything as complicated as a hormonal change. It's just what our bodies have been trained to do.

I don't have a logical or simple explanation for you, either way.

... A genetic peculiarity, then.

I'd like to see it.

See what, exactly? How it happens?

... The construction of the anatomy.

Presumably the tails and ears don't hang limp. I want to know how the bone and muscle connects that allows it to be shed so suddenly.

Even a tooth has be pushed out by another tooth, after all.

I hardly see how it matters.

It's a matter of knowledge. I can hardly think that you - presumably educated as you are - would disregard such matters as irrelevant.

Or is it a conflict because of that boy?

[ His voice slowly edges away from the cool, steadied measure it'd taken on before. He's all sweet and sugary again. ]

You're testing my patience, Professor.
