In A Corner Of The World I Loved You // KAT-TUN

This was supposed to be more than a drabble/actually go somewhere before Jin jossed me and left the group. (Hence the title that doesn't make sense.) (Very belated posting as well, yes indeed.) :x

In A Corner Of The World I Loved You
KAT-TUN
PG, 760 words

Jin gets married second, after Ueda, in the spring of KAT-TUN's eleventh year, because he finally does get a girl pregnant, much to the glee of the expectant public. The media has a field day making nasty predictions about his subsequent marriage, but his family and friends know better. Jin has always been a family kind of man, and even if the b-list actress he marries isn't quite the love of his life, he already loves his unborn daughter with unparalleled devotion. He's determined to be a good husband and father, no matter what the media or his past mistakes might say about him.

The wedding is a public affair ("Just throw the media a bone," their publicist had pleaded), but then Jin and his bride go completely off the radar for two weeks on their honeymoon. Meanwhile, the rest of KAT-TUN pick up promotions for their latest album again, as though they don't feel Jin's absence.

"Just like old times, eh?" Koki grins, accepting a microphone from a staff member backstage at a Music Station filming. "If I close my eyes so I don't have to see Nakamaru's wrinkles, it feels just like back when Jin used to shuttle back and forth between here and LA."

"Hey!" Nakamaru goes to whack Koki on the head with his microphone, but accidentally hits a passing cameraman instead and ends up bowing anxiously and repeatedly in apology to half the people in the room. Ueda snickers and tries to share an amused look with Taguchi, who is absorbed as always in a video game and only barely aware of what's going on around him.

It all makes Kame think it really does almost feel like old times again.

But then it's their turn to go out and in the sudden glare of studio lighting, Kame forgets and sits too close to Taguchi, thinking to leave space for Jin. He knows nobody will notice it - there's always a moment of adjusting seating space on these shows - but he flushes uncomfortably anyway, and then privately curses Jin in his head. It was easier to deal with Jin's absence when the two of them still hated each other.

Jin comes back to work at the end of two weeks with a tote bag of useless souvenirs, a perfect tan, and a horrendous haircut. In fact, "the stylist is going to hate you," is how Ueda welcomes him back.

"What?!" Jin screeches, as easily riled up as ever. "My hair is cool okay? This is how everyone in Machu Picchu wears their hair!"

"That's where you were?!" is Nakamaru's incredulous reply, while Taguchi grins, as brightly as always, and keeps on playing his video game.

Just to be annoying, Jin puts a hand over the screen of the console and manages to keep it there even as Taguchi dodges this way and that, trying to see his game screen. "Stop it, Jin!"

"You're laughing at me," accuses Jin, childishly, "Make me."

The small scuffle quickly turns into a bigger one, with Jin and Taguchi chasing each other around the room, over and under chairs and costume racks and piles of dirty clothes.

Kame pulls his legs up on the couch so he doesn't trip anyone and laughs aloud at his band mates. It had taken KAT-TUN a long time to get to this point - countless fights and separations and days that felt like years - but now, finally, Kame is sure that everyone's dedication to the group runs deeper than just contractual obligations. Taguchi and Jin chasing each other around proves it; Koki egging them both on and laughing himself into a fit proves it; Ueda and Nakamaru's nonchalance towards the chaos proves it. Jin's genuine, boisterous laughter proves it.

Then, suddenly, Jin collapses in a whirl of flailing limbs on top of the couch and therefore on top of Kame. He feels the laughter catch abruptly in his throat. Up close and disheveled from the chase, the haircut from Machu Picchu looks even worse, but in a way that makes Kame want to run his hand through Jin's hair to fix it. He almost does, when Jin looks up and smiles at him, setting his newly acquired laugh lines off to beautiful advantage.

Kame coughs (to clear his throat of the lump of caught laughter) and slides casually out from under the older man. "I hope you bought us something good and expensive, Bakanishi, to make up for subjecting us to the horror of your hairstyle every day."

"...But my hair is cool~!"
