This was really sweet. Serious and calm and sweet. It's not easy to create such an atmosphere, but to my mind, you managed well =) At least, you pulled me right in. I loved that it ended on a lighter note than it began. A nice progression.
And I love Harry's idea for a title *lol*

Actually, I don't see anything bad in a story not being betaed. Having a beta-reader isn't a necessary condition for a story to be good. A second opinion might help you - but that's not always the case.
