I wanted to post earlier in the week but I felt a little weird updating because I'm so behind on reading LJ. For the past 3+ weeks work has been really busy - which is great in a lot of ways, but it isn't conducive to keeping up with everybody's lives. I've managed to read an entry here or there - generally whatever's been at the top of my ( Read more... )

Ah! So was the Omnivore's Dilemma a good book then? I've been meaning to read it for a while now. Unfortunately, living where we do, it's near impossible to get any local produce aside from honey and the occasional vegetable. The closest 'local' source of anything else is California.

I totally recommend reading it! Even if you can't translate into local produce and that sort of thing, I think it's got alot of very interesting information. I never thought information about corn subsidies would be such a compelling read ;). The bright side for you is that in the grand scheme of things california is not sooo far away - it's certainly more sustainable to ship CA produce to Nevada than it is to ship it to MD :)

I love the names they pick for the scents. 'Smut'

It just makes me giggle.

Yay on a cool class and a break from the work crazies!

Yes, I suspect you would ave a field day with some of the bpal scents. There is one called voodoo that reminds me instantly of new orleans. And it's just fun to be exposed to all the different scent combinations - well almost always fun. I tried of called fire of love last week, and it smelled like manure and soil. Not in the fun planting way - more in the poopy dirt way. ugh!

We need to get a picture of workable nights over the next couple weeks so we can have you over for dinner, then!

Kathy's birthday this weekend -- Dad's in town the next -- but mayhap we can figure some weeknight that'll fly
