CSA and gaucho love

Ooops, forgot to post this yesterday...

Maudallan, I now fully understand your gaucho love. I have been wearing these all day and I am in love, it is all I can do to stop myself from buying 5 more pair right now! They are my new official traveling pant.

Today was my first CSA pickup. I'll post pics tomorrow for those interested. I got some gorgeous ( Read more... )

*thinks*

If I'm remembering correctly, one thing you can do to swiss chard is chiffonade it and add it to omlets or soup.

I've spent most of my life camping just outside of Berkeley Springs. It's amazing how the town has revitalized itself (though I think it's starting to encounter sprawl - yuck!).

Thanks for the tip!

Where do you camp there? I'd much prefer camping to most of the accomodations in town :)

The Swiss chard that I tried was fairly bitter. I like it though sauteed with a little olive oil, garlic, chorizo and then drizzled with little lime (which I know sounds strange, but seems to cut down on the bitterness) it was pretty darn good.

I am so glad you had wonderful trips.

Much of what works for spinach will work for swiss chard. I'd suggest braising it with something -- with a little bit of bacon or salt pork is classic.

Ah, excellent! I'm used to mainly eating spinach raw in salads which I hear is less recommended for swiss chard, but I know I have a store of cooked/braised/wilted spinach recipes that I could try with the chard. Thanks!

I just busted out my gauchos!! I wish I was able to wear them to work, I'd wear them all summer long!
I have used Swiss chard in recipes, I'll see if I can dig some up for you. I also use it in my salads I make every week. My CSA starts in June, I can't wait! I'm glad to see you got a good variety and asparagus!! Also let me know about that free range chicken source. We used to pass through Berkeley Springs when I was a youngster to get to our cabin, we stopped there a few times but there didn't seem to be much of interest back then.I really want to take a day trip soon.

Wait, how do gaucho pants not comply with Crazy Dress Code Lady's rules? Are you not allowed to expose ankles?

Nope. Gauchos are deemed INAPPROPRIATE on the chart of acceptable clothing items. I don't know why exactly, I guess she feels they are too casual. We used to be able to wear them on dress down Fridays but she got rid of that too. We can in fact expose our dainty ankles now, even without hose! But no gauchos or capris.

If I ever meet this Crazy Dress Code Lady, it will be Pistols at Dawn.
