Backwater, Mar Sara, Saturday Night

Jun 22, 2013 17:44

The terrans had been running around chasing precious artifacts for too long. More than that, they had been waiting too long-- long enough for Kerrigan's plans to come to fruition. They had thought the zerg vanquished, disappeared into the darkness. They had wasted years on political infighting ( Read more... )

Having waited restlessly for this for some time now, River extended her wings. She had waited calmly and quietly as the moment approached, enjoying the moment if pause before releasing the energy of the next step. When Kerrigan's order came, she was ready and she tilted her head slightly, looking up at the sky, where the zerg overlords orbited around the planet.

Release.

She sent the order and felt it resonate through the zerg mind. The overlords' ventricle sacks shivered before opening and letting the tentacled spores fall.

The spores smashed into the planet's surface with great violence, some opening up and spewing purple biomass onto the ground. Zerglings and drones spilled out of the others, the drones settling quickly on top of the creep, creating a Hive, then a zergling spawning pool, then crawling out to mutate into defenses.

Their new base was not far from Backwater, but it wasn't yet quite there.

River, Kerrigan spoke. Gather the zerglings. I want the artifact those terrans have stashed away in there.

River gave a small nod and a smile in reply, then send out the call, announcing to the zerglings that she was coming. Their response was immediate.

When she reached the new base they crowded around her and all she had to do was offer the direction towards Backwater.

Just outside Backwater, a group of terrans were setting up their defenses. Kerrigan could sense them...

... it wasn't just the locals, was it? Well. There was a local here who'd been gone for a long time.

"Jim," she hissed under her breath. She reached out towards the nearest larvae and forced it into a cocoon. River would need the back-up.

Terran marines lined up to protect the fledgling base, inside of which many mechanics were running around setting up barracks and bunkers.
