General game plot, and Flynn’s (horrifyingly bare)
Wiki page.
Personality:Despite his humble beginnings on the streets of Zaphias' Lower Quarter and his stressful position in the Knights, Flynn is a polite, kind-hearted young man. He holds strongly to ideals of justice and equality for everyone, no matter their wealth or social standing, and almost everything he does is to further his ultimate goal of social reform within the Empire. Flynn is courteous to everyone he meets, and even when stressed will generally try to remain calm and collected.
Flynn is polite and optimistic, and tries to be even-tempered in the face of adversity/annoyance. He is idealistic without being childish and confident without the pitfalls of arrogance, managing to balance hope with realism, wherein every harsh truth only makes him that much more determined. His determination and perseverance drives Flynn to work harder than some feel he should, and his unwavering dedication to that which he has sworn to uphold or protect has made him the cause of a great deal of irritation among his less passionate higher-ups. He is largely self-made, both in social standing and education, and tends to put a lot of effort into duties and work ethic to compensate for how the rest of Knights, generally nobles or the wealthy, see him, a commoner with no family and nothing to speak for him but merit.
Flynn believes very strongly in upholding the law, even when the law may be illogical or against his personal morals. He knows such problems exist and has made it his cause to change them, but he believes that attempting to exercise justice outside the reach of the law, even when necessary, is an unforgivable pitfall of hubris. There are, after all, better ways to do good besides taking things into one's own hands. It is worth noting, however, that Flynn has a tendency not to question the law, or indeed the orders of anyone he feels obliged to listen to. This may be because of his dedication to order, or it may be because of his naivety and self-imposed blinders, but it is a problem either way.
Though he has unavoidable bouts of rash behaviour (which he tends to blame on Yuri's influence), Flynn tries for the most part to stay cautious and collected, preferring to think things through rather than leap into the metaphorical fray - unless of course he needs to leap, in which case he will not hesitate. Flynn tends to be a little too concerned for others, and often ends up either neglecting himself in the process, or just grating on other's nerves with his sometimes excessive but always well-meant mother-henning. At the end of the day, though, his sincerity usually makes up for this.
Because of his kind nature, Flynn trusts easily, but he is not quite so naive as to place his full trust in people who have not earned it. He is loyal and steadfast, perhaps to a fault, and can be (and has been) blinded by others who, at least on the surface, appear to share his ideals. Despite his paladin-like habits, Flynn is easily flustered by ... certain personality types, and it is especially hard to break him out of his patterns of courtesy and proper title usage when he feels off-guard. Additionally, behind his polite and easy-going personality lies a certain sort of mule-headed stubbornness that can, and does, put him at odds with other similarly outgoing and dynamic people. For all his outward calm, Flynn does have a temper that's easy enough to provoke. He tends to vent his anger through words (sometimes hurtful) rather than physical means, though this doesn't mean he's any easier to deal with or any less likely to resort to fighting if he feels sufficiently aggrieved.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Flynn has trained with a sword since a very young age, and is a extremely skilled swordsman (not that it makes much of a difference here). Because of his rough upbringing, he's also more than able to hold his own in brawls and fist-fights, though in most cases he'd much rather disarm or pin his opponent than get into a real fight (sparring is another matter….). Also since he walks around in a full suit of armor most of the time back home, it goes without saying that he rather high strength and stamina attributes. Additionally, he was (and still is) a military grunt, so he's quite accustomed to taking care of himself with only the barest of amenities and temporarily functioning in less-than-optimal conditions (no sleep, little food, etc).
It's also worth noting that Flynn's true strengths lie in his perseverance, determination, and skills of diplomacy. If a conflict can be resolved without a shot fired or a weapon drawn, Flynn will give his all to make it happen. Oxymoronic though it may sound, Flynn is sort of a ruthless peace-mongerer. Of course, this is not to say he won't use force when necessary, or that he'll hold back when he does - only that given the chance in a conflict, he'd rather talk than fight.
For all his good cheer and Lawful Good…ness, Flynn is stubborn to a fault, surprisingly quick to anger, and entirely capable of blinding himself to uncomfortable truths for the sake of the greater good (whatever that may be). When he gets into an (admittedly rare) foul mood, Flynn can be sullen and hold grudges, even when he knows he shouldn't. He finds comfort in the regular patterns of lawful behavior, and this makes him both predictable and slow to adapt to new situations.
Also Flynn really really really cannot cook. He doesn't make food, he makes horrors.
