A little on Omi.

A little elaboration on Omi's background, personality, and why I play him the way I do. Because I like to talk, mostly.

Tot's player summed up Omi, and the first season of Weiss, pretty well here.
another good overview of Weiss is here, if anyone's interested; it's the one I attached to my app.

I'll just add a few more notes on Omi's background and the way I'm playing him.

I don't like any of the adult Takatoris in Weiss Kreuz. At all. Even the "good" ones are nasty. Omi's "uncle" Suuichi seems to have been delighted to make his brother/rival's son an assassin; he seems horrified when he realizes the kid's actually his own. The various Weiss drama CDs show that Omi's life with Suuichi was hardly candy and roses; and yet he still comes out of it apparently pretty happy and well-adjusted. Then, in the first Weiss series, it all starts falling apart-- he ends up killing both of his brothers, at least one of whom was genuinely fond of him, and the stress clearly shows in his nightmares and emotional reactions; in the drama CDs that follow, things only get worse (his teammates start going crazy and two key allies die).

The second Weiss animated series shows a very different Omi: he's taken back his original name, Takatori Mamoru, and is...well, a cold-hearted bastard, not to put too fine a point on it, so distanced from"Omi" that he seems to treat his caring and decent impulses as belonging to another, not-too-liked, personality. He uses the character in Gluhen most like the old Omi-- Sena-- as bait, and is pretty damn blase about it. Obviously, I apped Omi from before things had gone that far.

Omi's in transition, which is a fun and disconcerting place to play a character at (am I going too far? Not far enough?); while he's not Mamoru, or really anywhere near Mamoru, there's definitely a good deal of Mamoru in him. (There's a reason I used Mamoru as one of my OOC icons.) Omi doesn't want to use people as tools, but the thought has crossed his mind, and he's not above lying or deceiving people to do wha's best for them. He'd like to be honest with everyone, but he's spent his whole life lying, being lied to, or both.

Omi is sweet and kind and gentle and he'd love to be a good person-- he thinks of himself as mostly a good person-- but he's been a tool for most of his life and I think there's a good deal of anger underneath he's never tapped. I also play him as more comfortable with flirting and attraction than he was in Kapitel; but I feel that's just a natural extension of his personality (you have to grow up sometime, after all).

Omi's smart and sharp but can jump to conclusions too quickly and has a tendency toward tunnel vision. He also still thinks that everyone of good will could just get along if they took the time to understand each other, a belief that's bitten him in the ass more than once. (Mamoru has no such illusions.) His notion of morality is really messed up as a result of his upbringing (it's okay to kill people, but only when you're under orders!), and is going to start evolving too-- just being in contact with the Gundam folks is forcing him to look at what he's believed with fresh eyes.

So that's who Omi is, and why I'm playing him the way I do. XD

Special thanks to daegaer on my 'real' journal for giving me advice (also, go check her memories for Weissfic, like, now).
