No one ever told me before that it wasn't a good idea to leave your car window down even the slightest bit, but looking back now it makes perfect sense why you should never do that. You see, I always thought that as long as the crack wasn't large enough for anyone to fit their hand into that everything would be all right. Now I realize that all ( Read more... )

Oh god Ann... I'm so sorry this had to happen to you, fuck, how miserable. One of my friends had her credit card number stolen and used, but nothing like this. I'm sure the bank will have some precautionary steps for you to take. I wonder if you can have your SSN switched? I really hope they're small time. Only time will tell though... I'm keeping my fingers crossed. You must be so pissed :(.

I'm pissed off at myself, mostly. I'm really upset that I did that, leaving the car window open and my ID in the car. Gosh, I feel like such a dumbass. But I'm making a bunch of calls and seeing what can be done to hopefully prevent them from actually being able to use my info.

Garh, why am I such a ditz!?!

don't feel like that. I used to leave my i.d. above my visor. I learned not to do taht when this girl I know got hers stolen. It's not something you usually think about. However, when you do you realize it has your info as well as your husband's on there.

I am sure you will get it all taken care of! Don't worry too much just make sure you report to the SPs your i.d. was stolen!

Yeah, Warren has since made me feel better by telling me that lots of people leave their ID's in their cars. Still, since I'm down on myself a lot anyway, it's hard to convince myself that I shouldn't be this mad at myself. :P I'm trying, though.

you're not an idiot first off... i leave my id, purse, and who knows what else in my car. everyone does. i've had someone steal my identity before... it was a pain in the ass. stole my social and charged up a bunch of crap.. it was a pain to get it all fixed. i called the credit bureau, i think it was equifax and put a fraud alert on my info (they send u a free report... takes like a week) and then they forward it to the other two companies so they can send u one too. but yeah, good thing you're on the ball and getting all that stuff taken care of so you don't have an even bigger potential mess to deal with. oh, and if it comes down to it, like they did with me, all they made me do was send in a copy of my social and something else proving it was me or whatever.. something like that and they altered my social.. but if it's bad enough, they'll change your social. but me here for you ann! and remember you are NOT an idiot!

Thanks. I'm still trying to convince myself that it's not my fault, but it's hard. I still keep thinking, "What if I had...?"
