Rumor Gal Cabin Living Room - Thursday Evening

Jul 10, 2009 07:43

Merlin and Francine had handled the food. They'd even been so kind as to make special brownies for everyone with Chuck's oregano. The cabin living room was Edmund's work, with a low-set table in the middle for everyone to sit around on the floor. Now all that was needed was the attendees.

[OOC: For Rumor Gal cabinmates and their guests!]

Well, the low table set-up was somewhat new, but all Arthur could do was shoot it a slightly appraising look and then brush it off. Casual disdain was a skillset in and of itself, after all, and it didn't exactly take him long to manage getting a glass of wine from somewhere.

He rolled his shoulders idly. Wouldn't be a bad night, he was certain.

Edmund returned from somewhere other than here with jugs of whatever he could get his hands on. There was mead and ale, at least, and he set them down on the table. "Arthur," he greeted.

"Edmund," Arthur returned, deciding he could match informality with informality for an evening. "You've certainly applied yourself."

It wasn't meant to be patronising. Honest. It didn't even really sound that way.

[[ and thar the mun crashes, night! ]]

"I have more time on my hands than I should," he replied smoothly, pouring himself a cup.

Getting covered dishes of spaghetti, salad, and cheesy garlic bread from the camp kitchen to Rumor Gal was a lot easier when you had an extra pair of hands to help. Yes, even if the extra pair of hands was almost as clumsy as you, shh.

"I know it's not exactly Cafe Fina level," Francine said apologetically as she set the pasta in the middle of the table. "But at least there's lots of it?"

"It's appreciated," Edmund said sincerely. "And a far better outcome than if anyone here was left to cope with the food arrangements. Thank you, m'lady." For some reason, he slipped into a more Narnian style of speaking when he was around Arthur.

Francine was still rather easily impressed by it, given there was only one other person who ever called her that. "Aww, I'm sure you guys can coo...Okay, Chuck can't. And Arthur..." She tried to imagine Arthur cooking...anything, except maybe something over an open fire, and couldn't avoid the burst of giggle.

Or maybe that was just the brownie she'd had on the way over. Look, it was a long walk, okay?

"I can cook, but it's more suited for being on patrol in the woods than a sit down dinner." Francine was much more of a giggler than he'd expected. "Would you care for some mead or ale?"

"This saves me the trouble of getting a pizza tonight," Hannibal said when he wandered out of his alcove. "Hey, man."

"Welcome to the festivities. Help yourself. Francine and Merlin arranged the food, and there's plenty of mead and ale to go around."

"Thanks for the invite," Hannibal said, taking in the table and food. "I'd have been eating candy and crackers if I was left on my own."

"A perfectly respectable meal," Edmund replied, having resorted to that on days when he hadn't felt like cooking or ordering in. "But easy to pass up when there's the offer of a hot meal. Your name's Hannibal, isn't it? I think we had workshops together last Summer."

Chuck had a very strange afternoon and didn't hesitate to grab two brownies with the hand that wasn't holding a glass of scotch as he sat down. It was his oregano, dammit, he could hog down brownies if he wanted to.

Besides, Castiel was creepy and Chuck needed to get high to erase the experience. He'd give Dean the message eventually. You know, like, tomorrow. Or maybe later when he was high.

"Bass," Edmund said evenly. No, he hadn't spoken to him in many months, but he still didn't like him after the way he was so casual with Susan.

"Pevensie," Chuck said, giving him a tight-lipped smile. "I see we're still going by last names."

"Old habits," he replied. "I trust you've been keeping yourself busy?" He could still do polite. Sort of. It was as if he was channelling an older Southern woman. Any minute now he was going to come out with 'bless his heart.'

It all looked very nice if you asked Merlin. He was hovering about over the brownies to make sure they were being eaten. He helped bake those!

...it was a big thing for him.

"Very good brownies, Merlin," Edmund said enthusiastically.

"You've had one?" Merlin clearly had if the insanely cheerful expression was anything to go by.

"Oh yes. They're the best." Chuck was right. They really were the best. "Did you know you could make the best brownies?"
