[for Edmund]

[set to after her appointment]

After her appointment with the doctor, Susan couldn't go back to the clinic to see Jon, nor did she want to go and pick Rickon up from Sansa's straight away. She was too shaken by the confirmation that she was, in fact, very much pregnant. Pregnant, with a son who needed constant attention and a husband whose ( Read more... )

Honestly, it wasn't often these days that Edmund was alone, but at that moment he was. He wasn't ready to sleep through a night in his hut just yet alone or otherwise (and with Peter gone, even 'otherwise' felt very much 'alone'), but that was where his life was, his clothes and things that made a life. So he was there when Susan knocked, and gave her a smile as he opened the door.

"Hello, Su. ...I say, are you alright?" For it was just then that Edmund noticed a certain tightness around her face that said something was amiss but she was trying dreadfully hard to say it wasn't.

She stood in the doorway twisting her fingers together, praying she wouldn't be sick on Edmund's shoes. Right now she couldn't tell whether her queasiness was due to the baby or to nerves. "Yes--yes, I suppose so, I just... can I talk to you for a minute?"

"Of course," he said immediately, taking a long step back and opening the door for her entirely. "Come in, sit down," Edmund directed hospitably. "Or we can sit outside if you'd like."

"No, inside is fine," she said, not wanting to be overheard by any family who happened by. Susan wasn't ready for this news to be public, not yet. She sat down, took a deep breath, and then got up again, pacing the length of the room. "I've just had some news, and I don't know what to do about it."

It was ridiculous of her to be so afraid to say it, she knew--especially to Edmund, of all people--but telling someone would make it official, and that frightened her.
