[for Ellie]

Susan was anxious about her test results, and it was both easy and hard for her to wait until the afternoon to go and see the doctor at the other clinic. Easy, because if she didn't go then she wouldn't have to hear whatever news the doctor might give her, and hard because as much as she hoped it wasn't true, she knew, deep down, what that answer ( Read more... )

Ellie could see the hesitation, though she didn't comment on it. She couldn't quite tell if it was the good sort or bad sort, and that alone made her see it probably wasn't best to ask questions.

"Sure. Have a seat, I'll go get them," she said, motioning toward one of the empty ones as she went over to where the files were. She knew the woman had been familiar to her, and she realized why only then - she'd been around the other clinic a lot, with the man who came in with the broken leg. "Snow, you said, right?"

Susan nodded. "Yes, Susan Snow," she answered, and sat down in one of the chairs near the desk. She prayed she wouldn't get sick right here in the doctor's office. It was not as though her nerves were helping the situation at all.
