Many times I have noticed that when groups who are used to being able to dominate the discourse are being challenged, they begin to appropriate the language of oppression. That shit drives me fucking batty. Just because you don't get to DOMINATE the conversation anymore does not mean you are OPPRESSED, ok? It means you aren't the only voice that gets heard and that IS A GOOD THING.
>Her injury is, if we're going to go all utilitarianism on it (which I sometimes do), of lesser social impact than the number of people negatively affected by her contribute to the general air of intolerance, anger, and hatred through which too many people have to move these days. Moon contributes to a culture of fear - which is, perhaps, the mark of a good citizen by McCarthy standards but not really what she was going for, I think, in her whole rambling piece on good citizenship.
You know, one might think that since This Bridge Called My Back came out in 1979, bell hooks' Ain't I a Woman?: Black women and feminism came out in 1981, and All the women are white, all the men are black but some of us our brave came out in 1993 THIS SUBJECT MAY HAVE BEEN BROUGHT UP ONCE OR TWICE.
