Carys is asleep when the boys walk in. She's still sharing the bed with Tarrwyn -- as they will for years to come, so when she opens her eyes, she's surprised to see Duran and Amhar there.

"You remembered it was my birthday?"

"I reminded them!" Tarrwyn has, almost every day for a week, not that reminding was needed. She's particularly made sure that her new-found uncle remembers.

Carys is a little confused as to what to do, but she gives the princes as smile.

"'Course we did! It's Papa's birthday too." Amhar bounces on his toes excitedly, holding out his present.

"Papa says its your day too," Duran says, a little less shy than usual because this is Carys, he holds out his present too.

"Open them!" Amhar said, as excited as if it were his own birthday. He can't wait to see what she thinks of her presents.

Carys has to sit up, and smooth back her hair a little -- not that it does much -- and takes both presents.

"Which one'll I open first?" She asks.

"Amhar's Amhar's! Amhar's!" shouts a very enthusiastic peanut gallery, who has already pulled herself out from under the blanket,s bouncing on her knees.

Amhar looks conflicted for a moment, he really wants to first, but then Duran worked very hard on his gift. So with a great amount of self-restraint (a very kingly trait so he's been told), he looks to his brother. "Duran can go first."

Duran sets his gift down on the covers so he can scramble up onto the bed. "I hope you like it!" He holds it out for her to take.

Inside is a small book, its cover is decorated with red and gold swirls, Duran's attempts at painting the Pendragon crest. Most of the paint ended up on him...but it's the thought that counts.
