Room 402, Wednesday Evening

Troy got back into the room and tossed his duffel bag onto his bed before collapsing beside it. "I never want to go back home to my parents again," he moaned -- not that he'd even noticed if A.J. was in the room to hear him.

Which he was, not that Troy would have been expected to have seen him from where he was. He'd returned from work not too long ago, and, on his way from one area of the room to the other, he'd gotten caught on the way the light had, at that moment, caught on the side of the dresser. Since that moment of some sort of muse, he'd been sitting on the floor, mostly hidden, with a tape measure and T-square and a pencil, trying a few things out, making a few marks on the furniture, and jotting some notes in an open space on a very full page of doodles. He bit his lip when he realized it was Troy getting back; they hadn't seen each other in over a week, and things had been good over a week ago.

But a lot could change in little over a week. The comment made him grin a little wryly, though. "You, too, huh?" he asked, finishing the marking on another measurement before peeking his head around the dresser. The smile went a little nervous. "Also, hi."

Troy nodded, not looking up enough to realise that A.J. couldn't see it. "They're just... they were asking so many questions about the school, and I couldn't really explain why I'd wanted to stay in the first place, and... God, they just wouldn't shut up."

"And that," A.J. said, grinning slightly and going back to his measurements again, "is why I spent about ninety percent of my break sleeping on Lucas's couch instead of staying with my parents."

"I wish I'd had the opportunity," Troy replied. "The only night I managed to stay out of the house was New Year's, and that's only because we all crashed at Gabriella's." He sat up and looked over. "... What are you doing, anyway?"
