LJ Idol Week 11: Recency Bias

Last school year I had the kind of class that could wear a fake mustache and still keep their cool.  I don’t ever remember anyone acting a fool or purposefully breaking a rule.  No one made sounds like a rhinoceros and the kids were just not obnoxious.  Every bit of it was bliss and I often reminisce about the amount of awesomeness that I ( Read more... )

I've done substitute teaching and I can imagine getting settled into having a good class is a nice experience, but what an upheaval it was having the new class! I was always afraid of what I might face. I had needed the money. I didn't get to work often. However, I soon decided that $50/day (yes, with a college degree) was not worth the hassle when I didn't NEED the money that badly.

Wow...$50 is not nearly enough for a sub!

No, it's not since subs don't work every school day of the month, especially. Also, not for what subs endure from horrible students. I've had a fight break out in a classroom. I've had students constantly switch desks and insist they are other people.

If I actually had worked every day of a month, I'd have gotten more (but before taxes) than I now get out of the annuity for living at the moment.

At the time, though, my parents were still alive. If I had gotten that, I was still their dependent and would've been able to pay off my credit card bills with that.

I love this line "They came in dancing, prancing, bouncing, pouncing, and -ing -ing -ing" it so perfectly captures the energy of too many young, energetic bodies in one room.
