I was looking up the French word for "fear", but lots of words come up. I need the French word for fear as in an emotion or abstract. In Chaplin's play his character is this monster scary entity that IS fear itself.

Anyone?

Either la peur or la crainte. I'd describe the difference this way: former is more "fear," the latter is more "fearfulness." But I'm not really fluent, so don't trust my memory too far...

it's been awhile for me too, but I think "J'ai peu de " means "I'm afraid of" literaly "I have fear of"
