Personality: Calm and deadly, Takasugi is someone frequently described as having a dangerous aura about him. Most of the time, he appears to be reserved and relaxed, always at ease with his surroundings, even in dangerous situations, and carelessly smoking his pipe. Despite being aware that there is a bounty placed on his head, he casually strolls out in public in the middle of a festival, unafraid of being caught.
He has a cynical view of the world and believes that there is nothing worth being saved. Instead, he aspires to drown Edo in a sea of fire and would go through any lengths to see his ambitions completed, even if it means sacrificing the lives of people in the process. It is suggested that his personality had changed as a result of the death of his most revered person, his childhood teacher Shoyou-sensei. His ex-comrade, Katsura, comments that Takasugi has become nothing but a beast solely bent on destruction, to which Takasugi replies he doesn't mind living that way.
As leader of the Kiheitai, Takasugi proves to be both charismatic and intelligent, inspiring several remaining rounin to follow him reverently and unquestionably. One of his subordinates, Bansai, describes him as being able to read the true intentions of people, which proves he is deeply insightful. However, his pursuits are very selfish, and he shows no regard for any of his men, easily casting off the deaths of both Itou and Nizou as minor casualties.
Takasugi is also prone to showing his more violent and insane self on occasion. He claims to hear voices in his head telling him to destroy everything and has no qualms about drawing a sword to the main character's, Sakata Gintoki's, back. He even goes so far as to threaten to kill Nizou simply for mentioning his ex-comrades, claiming that his relationship with them was not that innocent.
In regards to Gintoki and Katsura, he wants them dead because he disagrees with how they'd both changed and abandoned the war effort for the sake of living menial lives. Takasugi despises change more than anything and accuses Katsura of forgetting all that Shoyou-sensei had taught them in childhood. At the same time, he openly admires Gintoki's strength and after his defeat, is able to admit he had underestimated him.

Sample Journal Post: Hm. This city isn't a far cry from Edo. Here, we still suffer at the mercy of external forces. Do you expect us to bow down and serve you calmly? To become model citizens of society? My sword can't stay dormant for that long.
But perhaps this darkness is only begging to be ignited…
Sample RP Post:
There were few things in this world that captivated Takasugi more than fireworks. An array of color exploded across the night sky, painting it in rich reds and purples, the illumination lighting his face as he watched calmly from beneath the brim of his bamboo hat, hidden away from most of the festivities. Smoke spilled out from between his lips, a pleasant scent that begged to be inhaled again as another stream sailed across his vintage point. It was a signal of things to come, a new war that loomed just over the horizon, hanging over the Bakufu like a guillotine ready to slice off their necks in revenge for what they had done to his home.
Edo no longer resembled where he had grown up, the world where samurai held their heads up high and proud and carried swords at their sides. Even Shoyou-sensei's voice had become lost under the sounds of screaming fireworks overhead, celebrating yet another year since the Amanto had taken over.
It was pathetic how easily Edo had rolled over and allowed itself to be dominated by foreigners, and Takasugi vowed to cover every corner of every street in the blood of the filthy Amanto. He wouldn't rest until they've all heard his suffering -until the cries that still raged within him were manifested at the tip of his sword and driven into flesh. He would let the beast roam free and have all their hearts in revenge.
But for now, he would simply wait, quiet and unassuming under his tree, taking another drag from his pipe and watching as blue-painted fireworks now splayed over the red. There were plans for tonight that would be carried out in good time -a certain official whose life would be ended in under an hour. Takasugi would have all the patience in the world if it meant that the Bakufu's eyes would soon be open to his message.
