Hit the road just means using some sort of transportation to get from point A to point B. I was going on a trip to the Ocean. Ocean = beach. So I was basically saying I was getting ready to drive to the ocean. No English is not that hard you are just seeing so much slang it is hard to understand. If I would write in proper English you would have almost no trouble.
