You don't need to stop from making new mistakes. Mistakes are a part of life and always will be. It is a common failing of parents to attempt to save their child from, "The same mistakes I have made." but in the end, you are simply dooming them to not only make those mistakes but not to learn from them, as they must increase the deception to keep you from learning about it and must thus hide it from their true selves which leads to them continuing the mistake.

Expect to make mistakes. The key is not to make no mistakes. Mistakes are human. The key is to learn from those that you make.
