Female Role Models

Mar 01, 2007 14:15

This is something that has actually become a topic with several people I know online recently.  And I think it's an important one.  Today on MSN there was a headline on the front page about 10 women who make us cringe and 10 women who inspire us.

I think maybe all of us need to rethink who are role models are at one point in our lives, especially ( Read more... )

Holy damn! That's what my article is about! That is freaky!

The only one I really disagree with is Sarah Jessica Parker. Mainly because she's so connected with the character she portrayed on S&tC, which I found to be a show that made women come across as shallow and, yeah, slutty. Don't get me started on that show!

All of those other women were also named by people on my FL with the exception of Maya (though she crossed my mind). I can't believe two people named Ali Hewson. That's wild!

Ali Hewson is so frickin awesome.

Yeah it seems to be popping up alot everywhere. I think everyone is catching the same vibe. Girls nowadays really need better role models and it's worth saying more than once or twice. So you go girl with your article.

Yeah, I don't know if I'd add Hilary myself, but the rest are good. Oprah is so powerful I'm actually kind of afraid of her. But she does do a whole lot of good. I'd replace Mrs. Clinton with Paul McCartny's ex wife since she's done a lot with her fame to help the fight against land mines. She's also going to be on the next Dancing With The Stars, which to me says a lot about her character since she only has one leg.

As for the bad ones... It's sad to see so many professed "Christians" on the list. I guess the odds are you're going to find some bad apples when it's the most widely accepted religion on the planet. Still, those people need some perspective.

As for Brats Dolls (or is it "Dollz?) I would never let my child play with that crap.

I think I'd rather let my kids play extremely violent video games than with a Bratz doll.

That would make a great spoof/horror trailer.

I'd also add Tori Amos & Susan Sarandon to that list of role models as well.
