Gah! My windows updated and the stupid thing found out I was running some Windows XP that isn't quite as...um..legal as it should be ( Read more... )

or you could just pick and choose what updates you get instead of having it do it automatically. that way you could pick the regular security ones (unless they bundled the piracy update with something, which would be something that microsoft would be sneaky about, most likely).

unfortunately, I believe they bundled so now it's called "Genuine Advantage" update..and it does all your updates..plus the counterfeit check...

Basically I'm screwed :P

I just have to re-remember how I did it before. I had the same thing on my compy and "fixed" it about two months ago. I haven't been called a pirate since, AND I still get the stupid Windows updates.

heh, listen to Sarah, it can be worked around. Jon did it (and then had to format) and re-downloaded it with no problems, he just unselected the "Genuine Advantage".

They are so stupid, they make it an "option", so if you know it's there, you just unclick it, then answer "Never download this again", and off you go...

Silly Microsoft!
