Ren is an original character, but if you have anything to say about him, please do so in this post!
Screening is on. IP logging off.
Name: Ren
Age: 154 years old, but looks like he's in his early twenties.
Height: 183 cm (~6 feet)
Weight: 60 kg
Appearance:
Kitsune form: Hair is brownish, while the eyes are golden with a brownish hue.
Fox form: Looks like a normal Japenese red fox.
Man form: Quite similar to his kitsune form; he's hair is only now black and eyes dark brown and he is missing his fox ears and tail. Looks like any normal, young Asian male.
Woman form: The face maintains its fox like features, but in this form she is shorter, approximately 170 cm (5' 7''), her black hair is even longer and she's quite well-shaped for a woman.
Child form: Looks like a 5-year-old with short black hair and big eyes. Can easily be mistaken for a girl as well.
His scars and missing arm can be seen in all of these.
History:
Ren used to belong to a pack, which he had joined when he had been abandoned by his parents. ( Unlike foxes that usually just live in small family groups, kitsunes may live in packs if they feel the need to seek power in a group. Seeing as Ren at the time of his joining was still a child and undoubtedly weak, it was better for him to be in the safety of a pack than alone in the wilderness. ) He didn't even have a name and didn't even bother coming up with one, so the pack just called him whatever they came up with everytime they had to talk to him. ("Hey you" was the most common option.)
In the pack, he was trained to be a fighter and quickly became one of the pack's strongest defender. Ren enjoyed fighting more than anything and even loved the taste of blood in his mouth. He hated weak opponents and would usually spare their lives, but those that actually managed to wound him bad enough to leave a scar, Ren would take one of their claws as a "memoir" and hang it around his neck, to remind himself that he still has to become stronger. At the moment the claw necklace has 10 claws. (Of course if the opponent doesn't have proper claws, Ren can think of something else to take from them then.)
Outside the fighting scene, Ren was quite the lonely wanderer, not really caring all that much for his pack. For him his pack just brought him fights and that's all he really cared for. So whenever there was nothing for him to do, he would take a walk outside the forest to see humans as he found these creatures rather fascinating and fun to play tricks at. Unfortunately, one day he found his way to a highway and got hit by a speeding car. The owner did stop to check on the injured fox, but instead of taking it with him, he kicked it to the side of the road and drove away.
Ren didn't return to his pack immediately and instead just limped helplessly along the forest's borders with his badly injured left arm. It was then when he met a beautiful flower spirit. The flower helped Ren by offering him herbs that would help heal his arm faster. The fox didn't stick around for too long, not even thanking the flower for its help, and soon returned to his pack to wait for his full recovery.
At this point Ren's pack decided it was the perfect time to kick Ren out of the pack, as he did nothing else for the pack than just defend it, and he caused fights inside the pack with his aggressive behaviour. So while Ren was taking a small nap, a bunch sneaked upon him and started ripping his injured arm off. Ren, of course, woke up, but there was nothing he could do to stop them and he came to lose his left arm permanently.
After that, Ren had no choice but to leave the pack.
Ren now sought revenge, still strongly remembering the smell of the man who had kicked him and was the main reason why the fox had lost his arm. It didn't take too long for Ren to find the man, but for his utter surprise, the man was already dead. And in his apartment the fox also found the flower spirit he had met earlier. Ren, being angry for not getting his revenge, attacked the flower, demanding an explanation why and how such a weak spirit had managed to kill a human.
Not shaken by Ren's sudden outburst, the flower calmly explained how he had been planted and raised by the man to be given to his love interest, but before the man had been able to do so, the woman had found someobody else. Frustrated by this, the man had then ripped the flower out of its pot and into several pieces, stomped on it and then thrown away. The flower had felt such anger towards the man that it had turned into a demon that , just like Ren, had wanted revenge. As a plant it had been knowledgeable of herbs and poisons, and being invisible to the human eye, it had simply poisoned the man.
Ren still couldn't understand the flower, but he also couldn't hurt such a weak creature and left the apartment to return to the forest. However, he didn't remain alone for long before the flower found him and asked if it could spend time with the fox. Not understanding the reason behind this request and not really caring in the first place, Ren allowed it.
In one month the couple got to know each other, laughing at the funny coincide how both of them had no name and even made a promise they would name the other someday. But sadly, after that one month the flower told it would soon wither away. It had already lived too long for a flower, even surviving through the cold winter. Ren, both angered and saddened by this, told the flower could just go and die alone then. Following Ren's "request", the flower left Ren to find a tree on which root it could peacefully wither away.
After one week, Ren finally gave in and went looking for the flower and when he finally found it, peacefully lying against a tree, it was too late. The flower's skin had already started crumbling away, but it didn't stop Ren from kissing its lips, before going to pick some flowers and placing them on top of the body. He also spent some time with the body, before finally leaving it alone and getting back to his own, boring and lonely life.
He got to continue his life alone for about 20 years, at which point he was already aboud 120 years old, before he met a small kitsune cub. The cub asked if it could be with Ren, as it had no parents nor a pack. Ren didn't really mind, seeing as he only got to fight very rarely anymore and he had nothing better to do, so the cub could stay with him. He soon found out that the cub was a vegetarian, despite being a kitsune, and didn't even know how to kill or shapeshift like most kitsunes. So Ren began training it and didn't gave up even if the process was painfully slow. When the cub finally could take a more humanlike shape, Ren couldn't believe his eyes: it was the flower spirit. Not wanting to sound like a bad romantic, as it thought it was thanks to Ren it had been reborn, the flower explained it had wanted to continue living so badly that it had been allowed to be reborn and coincidentally as a kitsune.
The couple now continued to live together and finally fulfilled their promises: giving a name to one another. The flower got the name Haru ( spring ), which Ren simply explained it was because most flowers were born in the spring.
Ren himself was confused by his own name, as it meant "lotus", to which Haru answered while smiling mischievously that it could also mean romance or love.
"S-such a girly name, you bastard. But fine then. I'll take it. Just don't use it often", he muttered angrily.
Personality:
Ever since Ren lost his left arm, he felt like he has become weaker and so his personality changed somewhat. He used to be very aggressive, getting angry by the slightest things and not really listening to anyone in his anger. He still gets angry quite easily, but he doesn't necessarily attack the person who angered him.
Ren is also quite the stubborn creature and hates being wrong about anything. And seeing as he is a kitsune that hasn't really studied anything ( he doesn't even know how to write his own name ), he can be wrong quite a lot. But luckily he is a fast learner and if somebody would just teach him, he'd be sure to memorize everything.
Being one-armed hasn't made Ren forget about fighting. On the contrary, it has made him strive for strength even more and he wishes to become one of strongest kitsunes there ever has been. He trains daily, both in his human and fox form. He doesn't really know himself why he loves strength and fighting so much, but then again, he doesn't really care for the reason and just wants to keep fulfilling his own wish. He still gets challenged to fights and some packs have even asked if he could join them, but Ren is happy living with just Haru.
Even after losing his arm, Ren can still act quite mischievously, like the fox he is. He especially loves playing tricks on men, as they are easy to fool into the forest, maybe steal their clothes and then watch as they try to stumble their way back home naked.
Of course Ren also hates humans quite a bit, blaming them for the loss of his arm. However he does love children and usually helps all of the lost children out of the forest if he happens to find any.
Ren can seem like a really insensitive person, but the only one he has ever cared for is Haru and he has yet to meet anyone else who would deserve his attention. It doesn't necessarily mean he's a cold person, he just doesn't know how to love. That's one of the reasons why he gets flustered and embarrassed whenever somebody actually shows him some affection. He is still learning how to give attention back, so he can be a bit tense while trying to do that.
In kitsune's age, Ren is still quite young and he sometimes acts all simple and childlike. He doesn't always think ahead and acts rather fast, letting his instinct do most of the thinking. But of course, being over 100 years old, Ren can sometimes act like the grandpa he is. He has had plenty of life experience, you brats, so don't talk back.
Oh, and don't forget that as he is basically a fox, he can act like one too.
Abilities:
While being stronger and faster than a regular human being, he still wouldn't really beat Superman.
Like most kitsunes, Ren also has the ability to shapeshift. He has two main forms: a fox ( the Japanese red fox ) and a human. However, in his human form he usually keeps his fox ears and tail, unless he wants to play tricks with people, and after losing his left arm, Ren uses his human form more as it's easier to move in it.
During the night he can also take the form of a woman or a child to fool people even more.
If Ren gets angry, his fox form can become as big as a human being ( which he has named being his demon form ), making him even stronger in the process.
Being both an animal and human, Ren can understand ( and speak ) both animal and human language, and of course his sense of smell and hearing are far better than that of a regular human.
