The trick is to keep your withholdings as single with no deductions so they take the max out of your paycheck. Then there is the chance that you will get money back during tax season.
That's what we did. Which sucks because I could be getting more a month, but I am claiming single. Maybe I should check with Payroll to see if it's right, you know how bright they are here.
If you claimed 0 exemption, you shouldn't have to pay. My only guess is that if either you or your husband is making waaay more money than the other then it's possible one of you isn't being taxed at a high enough rate. But only heard of that happening with a librarian/lawyer couple.
