Bog standard science reporting

I know, "BBC journalists have no idea what science means", "dog bites man", etc. But a good example of the type.

Here's the BBC report:

The journalist/editor thinks that "associated with" and "predicts" mean the same thing as "breeds" and "causes". Would it be that hard just to suspend and retrain science journalists who don't know the difference between correlation and causation?

While we're doing that, can we do the same with other professionals whose role ought to require that they have some idea?

Or, if retraining isn't an option, maybe ruthless vigilante justice?
