*sniffle* Their love is so tragic. I keep saying this, I know, but it's so true. :( I could totally see Stevie selflessly arranging Xabi's transfer only to make him happy - without taking any credit for it, because that's what he is. Of course it would have been a lot better if Xabi had responded with a selfless gesture of his own, but there's only room for one of these in this matter. One of them will end up disappointed on the long run, and recent events show very clearly how big a price Stevie (and Liverpool FC) have paid to ensure the happiness of Xabi Alonso - so one might say that selling Xabi to Real Madrid was a selfless gesture of the club as well. I suppose that the fact that Xabi has to spend months without Stevie just as well as Stevie has to spend months about Xabi is the consolation we can draw from this, and the fact that despite the meaningless words they exchanged at the airport, it's not over between them, and it doesn't have to be over
