Lent or something like it

Feb 21, 2007 22:28

Every year for the last few years, despite my heathen ways, I've given up something during the Catholic season of Lent, because a month and a half-ish of disciplined life improvement is generally a positive thing, and it's nice to have something to connect me to my Christian friends ( Read more... )

Ideas:
• Write publicly once a day.
• Devote n hours per week to teaching someone.
• Fetch me Starbucks every afternoon.

I could write publicly once a day easily enough, I suppose.

Teaching sounds grand; I love to mentor and such. Trouble is a lack of students, and qualifications of things to teach.

And, um, no.

I'm generally opposed to adding something when... well... you've already added a lot of other stuff.

Although, writing publicly could lead to accountability...

I could just take this year off, I suppose. An hour of piano practice, 15 minutes of pencil sharpening, a random sketch - and that's just right now. Hrm...

If you're looking for students....I'd be happy to oblige. Programming, Go, your brand of Kung Fu. All things you'd be quite qualified to introduce me to.

I have to agree with the others though, as good as "improvement by addition" sounds, you've added quite a lot this year already.

Fortunately my gods do not require me to give up much....I've a lot of respect for folk that do regular fasting, and other type devotions, Catholics included. I, however, shudder to think how fast I would fail.

I would be honored and thrilled to teach you any of the things you list, but my kung fu teacher hasn't given me permission to pass anything on yet, so I'm quite sure you understand that's out. Go and programming are two of my favorite things, though, so - email me at onecrane@gmail.com and we'll figure out schedules? I have something unrelated I could very much use your help on, as well, actually - hope you have a shinai handy.
