EDIT: I should clarify the message I perceive here before placing such sweeping endorsements.

The point of this article that I agree wholeheartedly with is that the highest halls of power are currently packed with people who don't deserve to be there.

This is not a bash against the Republicans. Much as I don't care for the general ways of the followers of the elephant, I know a lot of very well-educated, intelligent, reasonable Republicans who just happen to soundly disagree with a lot of my ideas on how things should run. Similarly, I know a lot of moron Democrats and Libertarians and Greens

To substitute something for that scary "elite" word, let's use "noble." You know, the one that used to signify a person who stood for noble things. Honor, decency, responsibility to those they serve, things like that. Those hopeless ideals that always wind up falling in the face of greed. We all know the image of The Noble (tm) - vain, aloof, scheming, and generally awful. The image of The Elite (tm) is much the same way. Snobby, overprivileged and overindulged, totally isolated from the salt of the earth, totally insensitive to the values of those they serve. Sounds like somebody I want nothing to do with.

Let's talk about a different kind of elite, a different version of noble - people who are actually noble, and are elite human beings because they are noble. Because they have the ability to discern justice, to provide for their citizens, and to for god's sake leave their personal beliefs out of what's right and wrong. We'd be in the exact same clusterfuck if a pack of stoners took over the White House and started insisting that The Secret be shown in public schools. Who'd be screaming about separation of church and state then?

Now I've probably managed to piss off all of the Secret fans out there, so let me hastily clarify: I haven't seen it yet. I want to. I make no claims as to its validity. But I've heard fiercely divided reviews, which tells me that there's probably some people who think it's divine truth in digital media, and some people who think it's total madness (you know, kind of like the Bible). I know for fact that I have both types on my LJ. With such divided opinion, I firmly, firmly believe that anybody claiming to have authority over any large part of civilization *must* make room for both viewpoints.

Hey, what a segue! Making room for contrasting viewpoints. Allowing people of a divided mind to live together in harmony as equals. Things that our current administration seems pretty much entirely opposed to, favoring instead a policy of stamping out dissenters, the way that a spoiled child would solve things. I'd like somebody more truly noble.
