S is for Shad

Two fics in one day! Wow!

Practicing? Practising? I hate my spell check. It can never decide if it wants to use American English or British English....grrr. Although the LJ spell check is saying the second spelling is incorrect. But then again, LJ spell check doesn't like the word "bonafide".

S is for Shad

Shad's voice warbled as he sang off pitch.

“You really shouldn't quit your day job.”

Shad stopped singing and looked at the speaker. The man was taller than Shad, which was an accomplishment as Shad was almost six and a half feet himself. The man had deep black hair that looked almost purple in the sunlight and bright blue eyes that made Shad think of Ireland for some reason.

Shad smiled at the stranger. “I'll have you know that my day job is singing.”

The man looked at Shad in disbelief. “Please don't tell me you are one of those horrid singers who makes his money posting on Youtube.”

Shad shook his head. “Nope, I'm a bonafide Broadway star.”

“I hate to tell you this, but people are lying to you. You can't sing.”

Shad laughed again and broke out into song. “Why you gotta be so rude? Don't you know I'm a human too.”

It was the man's turn to laugh. “I guess I was wrong. If you can sing like that why did you sound so horrid a moment ago?”

“I'm actually practicing for a part. It's actually really difficult to sing badly.”

“Kinda like when actors say it's harder to play a part where they are supposed to be bad at acting? Like those characters who put on the play in A Midsummer's Night Dream?”

“Exactly.”

“So what part is it that makes you sing so badly?”

“Oh, it's some new play by some new writer that's supposed to be all the rage when it comes out. It's okay but not as good as they are trying to make it sound. But, it's a fun part so I can't complain.”

“Ah.”

Shad smiled gently as the man stared at Shad without seeming to realize he was. The man was really cute. Shad wondered if the man realized just how close to Shad he had gotten. Only one way to find out.

Shad took a step closer. That single step put them so close together that their chests brushed when Shad purposely took a deep breath. The man jolted as their bodies brushed but didn't step away. Shad smiled up at the man as seductively as possible.

“So, my name is Shad. You are?”
The man looked down at Shad, his pupils dilated and the blue seemed to deepen. “I'm Daniel. It's nice to meet you.”

“Oh, the pleasure is all mine.” Shad all but purred. He grinned internally as Daniel swallowed heavily. “But, I'll make sure to share the pleasure with you.”
